When we were making our trip in South East Asia with my girlfriend, we had to cross Cambodia-laos border. However, they are used to ask money for what they call "stamp fees" which is a backshich. We decided that we would not pay because we did not want to be part of the corruption. They kept our passport for almost 1 hour during which we decided to eat in front of them and to show that we were not afraid. They finally gave us the passports back and we had to walk 20 kilometers before the next city. We walk one more hour and hitch-hiking finally worked.
