关于我

CURRENT MISSION

I want to learn the most out of life and I want to share this with people that I love.

ABOUT ME

I think I can say that, in this particular moment of my life, my attention gravitates between my work, music, travels, politics and cinema, more or less in this order of importance.

Concerning traveling, I usually take between three weeks and a month a year to travel on vacation. Last year I went to Turkey with my girlfriend, and this year I went to Québec to spend time with her friends and family. My work also offers some opportunities for short-time travels, and I've lived for a month and a half in Oslo. Other than that, I try to take weekends to visit friends. I've also backpacked through Central America, some regions of Brazil, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. One of my best trips was on a motorbike with a friend from Paris to Croatia, with a one-day detour to Sarajevo.

Concerning politics and cinema, I have mostly read a lot about Brazilian politics (since the elections are coming) and watched a few movies when I had the time (but not a lot, hope that'll change soon).

I love music, I play the guitar, but recently I've been mostly listening to different things, from rap and rock to jazz and some classical.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a passionate being, and I simply cannot do things half-heartedly. For the good and for the bad.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the moment, just surfing. As soon as I get an apartment for myself, I'll start hosting too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had been thinking about joining Couch Surfing for a while. Thanks to a very CS active friend, I've met a lot of couch surfers and I had nice experiences at his place in Barcelona. However, due to work and living conditions, I didn't feel I was ready to receive people at my place, and I didn't want to join only to use other people's couches. Now that I'll be establishing myself for a longer time and in a calmer period of my life, I felt like giving it a try. My first direct experience was amazing. What started as a conversation in a CS group became a month-and-a-half living experience with some wonderful people that I'm happy to call friends now.

兴趣

The reason I'm a physicist is that I love to learn how things work, and this passion generalizes to a lot of other fields. I'm attracted to the big questions.

My interests in music are quite wide, They range from jazz to thrash metal, passing through most other forms of rock and through rap, blues, soul/funk and Brazilian music. Nevertheless, I think I can say that I'm particularly in love with rock from the end of the '60s and beginning of the '70s.

When it comes to traveling, throughout the years I've grown more and more tired of the backpacking/hostel/partying/sightseeing type of experience, especially because I've never had more than 40 days in a row for traveling. I've found that what excites me the most is the richness of other cultures and the interaction that only a longer experience can provide. For this, I've tried to integrate traveling into my work, which I was able to do in the last six years in France and for a few weeks in Norway.

When I travel, my ambition is to immerse myself in the life and culture of a place and try to feel what it is to live there. Instead of traveling around for sightseeing, I always prefer to spend time with people I get to meet, cooking, going out, wandering around, enjoying a good glass of wine and getting to know the feel of everyday life. This is the main reason for my interest in Couch Surfing.

When it comes to cinema, I'm quite picky. I can enjoy action movies, but not if they're excessively brainless (Predator and Terminator are OK, Steven Seagal certainly not). I don't like romantic comedies, with very few exceptions. My main interests are in the drama/thriller area.

Politics is a sensible subject, so I'll refrain from talking about it here. Suffice it to say that it may be a good topic of conversation if interests you too.

I'm also a chess player. I've played in tournaments in France for the last few years, but I've taken a break since the beginning of 2010. It takes too much place in life!

音乐、电影和书籍

Movies: Almost everything I've seen of Scorcese and of Coppola. I like David Fincher too, especially Seven and FIGHT CLUB!!! The Shawshank Redemption is a great classic, and I'm also a great fan of Daniel Day-Lewis (his work in There Will Be Blood is magnificent!!!). A recent movie that I really loved is Lat den Ratte Komma In, a Swedish movie about the friendship between a young boy and a vampire girl (forget Twilight! If you want your real dark teenage/child vampire movie, this is the one!).

Music: In Classic Rock, examples are The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton (especially in Derek and the Dominos), Captain Beefheart, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band and much more. In Blues, I'm particularly fond of Howlin' Wolf, B. B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. When it comes to soul/funk, I love Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The J.B.'s and Sly and the Family Stone, and of course, Tim Maia Racional! Brazilian music is really vast. I've been enjoying listening to Céu, and I've listened to Chico Buarque, Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and other classics. I like Paulinho da Viola a lot, and I've been a long time fan of Los Hermanos, even though I haven't listened to their music for a while now. In modern rock, I like the Fleet Foxes, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and much more. I could go on for a lifetime, so let me stop here.

I used to love to read, but since I've started studying and working in Physics, reading and writing at work has taken such a large place that I don't read almost any literature books anymore, except when I'm on vacation. I do love reading though. Some of my favorite books are "L'Étranger" (Camus), "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (Kundera), "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" (Dee Brown), "Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira" (Saramago) and others that I can't really recall now. I've read a lot of crime books from Agatha Christie, and some Sherlock Holmes too. I also love Machado de Assis.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The turkish hospitality, the beauty and warmth of Istambul and their way of cooking pepper and eggplant. Living in France for six years and getting to know so many people from so many different backgrounds and cultures, and getting to live so many different things. Skydiving, bungee jumping, diving, activities that bring you a different viewpoint of the world. Sharing my life with my friends, my family and my girlfriend. A Metallica concert in 1999. Going by motorbike from Paris to Dubrovnic in Croatia, and then back to Marseille. All my travels in general. Learning a new language. Getting to know people. Playing music in a band. Winning a particularly tough game in a chess tournament. And much more.
