ABOUT ME

I'm an artist and a teacher. I am having some time away from my family and making some art overseas (Canada and US). I'm excited and a bit freaked out because this is a dream that I never thought would come true. I love visiting galleries with friends, making art, having coffee, doing crafty things, listening to music, going to the cinema, making prints, reading, making stuff, seeing movies, cooking - all the usual good stuff.

PHILOSOPHY

Get your hands dirty and try to be a good person. I don't want to waste my time working my life away, but I'm not into being a lazy bum either. We have opportunities in developed countries that a lot of the world could not imagine. We are spoilt rotten and forget to be thankful so contributing to your immediate community in some way and helping those less fortunate is really important.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Initially I'm happy to meet up for coffee or a drink in my hometown. Then I'm hoping to couchsurf in NYC and perhaps other places in the US. When I return from my travels and my eldest son has finished his final year of high school exams, I'd love to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a couchsurfing newbie, at least in this online community. In my travels years ago I was blessed to meet many wonderful people who shared their homes, couches, spare beds and their time to make my experiences so much richer.

Interesses

Art-contemporary especially printmaking, installation, drawing, painting. I love cooking and eating, going out for dinner, coffee, cake. Kayaking and bike riding are fun ways to see places, but I'm not a fan of running, unless it's to catch a bus or train or something.
I can't stand watching sport on tv or even being in the room while it's on!!
Some of my favourite tv shows: Dexter, Big Love, Mad Men, Graham Norton.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

I love listening to music - jazz, funk and soul (love Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings) and I'm open to other stuff except heavy metal and anything repetitively annoying (but I like music that is repetitively mesmerising...like Phillip Glass).
Movies - too many to list, but I do love seing French, Spanish and Italian movies just to hear the language.
Books- again too many to list. I'm always reading something. I've just finshed Damon Galgut's "In a Strange Room" - an interesting read for travellers.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

I got to to the top of a mountain in Spain after having been frozen with fear a few metres from the top. This fear had been building on the climb up, but I'll never forget the view from the summit nor the strength that I discovered I had on overcoming my fear.
Sleeping on desert sand warm from the remains of a small fire in outback NSW (Australia) is as unforgettable as seeing the trillions of stars in the night sky there.

I can share some of my knowledge and passion for art. Maybe I can teach you how to draw or print, hopefully I can teach you how to see as an artist.
I'd like to learn to cook your favourite meal and learn some useful things to say in other languages!!
