About Me
Hello!
I'm a writer who grew up on a farm, left for Chicago, and have tried to see the world every step of the way. I've been to every state except Alaska and lived in Central America for 5 months (by the time I left, my Spanish was pretty damn good, but now I think "Languages I'm Learning" is the right description haha).
I write mostly screenplays, but lots of different things in between the "mostly." Essays have been a particular passion lately.
I love meeting people and exploring places—wandering cities alone or going out with someone to see their home, their bar, their secret world happening all the time unseen. I run an oral history project — www.thesearepeople.com — that should show some inkling of how much I love the world and the lives in it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Because I want to meet people in the places I go.
Because I want to share stories with travelers and those who invite them.
Because hotels are expensive and I'd rather spend that money on experiences and a bottle of wine for my host.
Because I don't want to stumble around the internet to find what's good in places I've never been.
Because we're all in this together and I need to be reminded of it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorites are impossible. Let's do what comes to mind right now:
Music: Waxahatchee, Max Richter, Lucy Dacus, Kendrik Lamar, The Album Leaf.
Movies: Waking Life, The Fountain, Beginners, It Follows, The Beach Bum.
Books: Gerard Manley Hopkins, The Paris Review Interviews, Herman Hesse.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Survived the tail of a hurricane in a 27ft sailing ship. Do not recommend.
Teach, Learn, Share
Take lint from your dryer and pack a film canister full of it when you go camping — effective and easy fire starter.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Tales of adventure, hopefully good conversation, a love of going out and seeing the city in all kinds of ways—walking, dancing, drinking, seeing art and theatre or doing nothing at all, and, importantly, independence. I've hosted many travelers in my life and the ability of a guest to be self-sufficient with their time is not to be undervalued.
