About Me

I'm still a young man, even at 31, just figuring it all out. I live in a small apartment in the San Juan foothills, on the edge of the San Luis Valley (home of the Great Sand Dunes). I'm teaching at Center School in Center, CO: HS science and math classes.

I make my own bread (often), bike and climb (often), backcountry ski (weekends), and try and bag peaks in-between. I love to cook and listen to music and hang out and meet new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have fallen off the CS me get back on. This is a great place to meet open-minded people, who are full of energy and stories and willing to try new things. Where else can you find a database of such people, with pictures and stories and everything???

I've surfed, hosted, gone to meet-ups, donated money, encouraged others to join, uhh, spent hours pawning over trips I wish someday to make. While living in Hamburg, Germany, for a summer, most of my friends were from CS. Great people! In Minneapolis, MN, I was active with other local CSers, and made loads of good friends there. In NYC, I hosted many couchsurfers. Now in Oakland I'm rarely asked to host, but I would!

I want to meet travelers, both US and foreign, who want to join me in my journey across the US. Please ask to come along! I can take hitchhikers and overnighters. You might have to work. Cook a meal, sing a song, lead a hike, make popcorn for movie night, record a podcast, shoot a video, or write a story. Or re-upholster an old camper couch. But I bet you can handle that!

Meeting new people (duh), the outdoors, cooking, reading, enjoying delicious beer and wine and conversation.

Adventure travel (either crazy places or non-existent budget), bikes, trains, foreign languages (esp. French and German), cool architecture (inc. bridges), extreme weather.

I live to cycle, love to climb, and cannot stay out of wild lakes and rivers.

I dabble in photography and need to improve my videography and podcast-ography skills asap!

Music, Movies, and Books

Spotify is my new home. Very open to all types of music. My jam is well-riffed blues and folk. Love me some bluegrass. Into music that moves me, makes me shuffle and dance, puts a smile on my face. All time favorite was Weezer, now I don't know. Road trip jams like The Band, Grateful Dead etc are atop the playlist.

Of course I love them! Jurassic Park is the only film that scared me out of the theater. Classics like Citizen Kane and Casablanca never get old. I love the subtle adult references of Pixar films, and still know all the words to Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid songs...and Aladdin.

Recently, nature poetry, conservation (Aldo Leopold, John Muir), and adolscent action books. I LOVE READING FRENCH. Lost my copy of le Petit Prince (sad face) but have devoured le petit Nicolas and currently on Matilda (in French), though Roald Dahl is an Anglophone boss and will remain in my repertoire.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watch the sun rise over Lake Tahoe and watch it set over the Pacific Ocean, in the same day. God blessed California.
