About Me

My friend Tom and I are embarking on a National Park road trip starting in August 2015. Our goal is to gather and share the stories of fellow campers, travelers and park staff/volunteers we encounter along the way. We will be in a 22' Winnebago Warrior (1982 edition, of course).

I hope to meet many CS participants during this journey, which will last roughly until summer 2016. Please message me! The camper has a couch you can crash on. We'll have extra tents and bedding for camping. If you want, you can join our road trip and ride with us!

We will be have a weekly podcast. We will shoot and share high quality photos and videos. We will write a book. We are not trying to be NP guides but rather inspirers, lighting a campfire under the butts of our friends to get out, camp, sleep under the stars, share stories, open up, listen and learn.

You can follow our trip at www.inspirebycampfire.com. Also on Twitter (Insp_by_Cmpfire), Instagram and Facebook.

I just left my job as a transportation engineer to follow my passion for the outdoors. I love to camp, hike, bike, climb, swim, stargaze, cook, and converse. I can fix your bike, pick up a new sport, whip up an easy meal, chat about anything. I am on a mission to spread good vibes and experiences. Let me make you a cup of coffee, fix a flat tire, take you for a bike ride, learn about your past and share my story with you.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

updated June 2015

I have fallen off the CS wagon and need to get back on. This is a great place to meet open-minded people, who are full of energy and stories and willing to try new things. Where else can you find a database of such people, with pictures and stories and everything???

I've surfed, hosted, gone to meet-ups, donated money, encouraged others to join, uhh, spent hours pawning over trips I wish someday to make. While living in Hamburg, Germany, for a summer, most of my friends were from CS. Great people! In Minneapolis, MN, I was active with other local CSers, and made loads of good friends there.

Now I want to meet travelers, both US and foreign, who want to join me in my journey across the US. Please ask to come along! I can take hitchhikers and overnighters. You might have to work. Cook a meal, sing a song, record a podcast, shoot a video, or write a story. Or re-upholster an old camper couch. But I bet you can handle that!

Meeting new people (duh), the outdoors, cooking, reading, enjoying delicious beer and wine and conversation.

Adventure travel (either crazy places or non-existent budget), bikes, trains, foreign languages (esp. French and German), cool architecture (inc. bridges), extreme weather.

I live to cycle, love to climb, can't stay out of wild lakes and rivers.

I dabble in photography and need to improve my videography and podcastography skills asap!

Music, Movies & Books

Spotify is my new home. Very open to all types of music. My jam is well-riffed blues and folk. Love me some bluegrass. Into music that moves me, makes me shuffle and dance, puts a smile on my face. All time favorite was Weezer, now I don't know. Need to make music more integral in my life. Coldplay still kicks off most road trips.

Of course I love them! Jurassic Park is the only film that scared me out of the theater. Classics like Citizen Kane and Casablanca never get old. I love the subtle adult references of Pixar films, and still know all the words to Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid songs...and Aladdin.

Recently, nature poetry, conservation (Aldo Leopold, John Muir), and adolscent action books. I LOVE READING FRENCH. Lost my copy of le Petit Prince (sad face) but have devoured le petit Nicolas and currently on Matilda (in French), though Roald Dahl is an Anglophone boss and will remain in my repertoire.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Watch the sun rise over Lake Tahoe and watch it set over the Pacific Ocean, in the same day. God blessed California.
