About Me

Hey folks!

I'm Burak, a data scientist, entrepreneur, and drummer from Turkey. When I joined Couchsurfing I was an Erasmus student in Warsaw. Now, I'm a data scientist living in İstanbul and Ankara. I'm willing to meet travelers around the world...

As a drummer, besides playing an instrument, love to listen to any kind of music, but especially classic rock tracks nowadays, I can recommend you a lot of undiscovered songs.

Also, I love all sports I can or cannot do, so I'm open to trying all new things even if they are categorized as extreme sports! And movies and series... I have a huge archive of movies and series, and I like to watch each of them again and again. Also, I'm really interested in watching local movies from other countries.

And also my biggest goal in Erasmus was to see Northern Lights but it is still missing, if you are searching for a company, I'm totally in!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think, Couchsurfing is the best way to experience any city. When you go somewhere, you must meet with the local people, you must experience the way of living, the local foods, you must learn about the facts about the city. And CS gives very big opportunity to do all of these, to cooperate with the people which you can learn from them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Pink Floyd has been my favorite group since my childhood. Actually, I’m a real funk and jazz fusion listener, but this summer something happened to me and I became a lover of classic rock like my old times. Some bands I love to listen:
Pink Floyd, Toto, Phish, Alan Parsons Project, Camel, Stevie Wonder, Dire Straits, George Duke, Jamiroquai, Electro Deluxe, Earth,Wind&Fire, Snarky Puppy, Bruno Mars, Daft Punk, so on...
(I can listen or watch the whole PULSE concert of Pink Floyd in single time!)

And I have a band called Funky Monkey, in Turkey. We generally play funk or pop songs in our own funky way. Here is a Spotify playlist link of the band played:

Also, consider this playlist of Turkish songs as a gift:

About movies... I like all Christopher Nolan’s and Quentin Tarantino’s movies but I like Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump most. I like watching movies so I have a very huge archive of movies. Be ready for quotes! Some movies I like to watch again and again:
Forrest Gump, Kill Bill, Interstellar, Star Wars (but of course oldest trilogy), Amadeus, Magic Carpet Ride, Inception, Django Unchained, 3 Idiots, The Legend of 1900, V for Vendetta, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Marvel movies, and many others...

And series! Thanks to Netflix, I’m familiar with almost all series actually. The Office and How I Met Your Mother are probably my favorite TV shows. Please don’t tell me Friends is better, it can be, but I really hate this comparison. And my second favorite TV show is, again probably, Californication. I guess the reason behind I became a Rock&Roller again is Californication. And of course, I love the fiction inside Game of Thrones, I really like to read about the history and facts behind it. And some other series:
Sherlock, House MD, Narcos, Family Guy, Rick and Morty, Top Gear, and the list continues...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taking to the stage as a drummer against ten thousands, at my fifteen!

Teach, Learn, Share

As a drummer, I can teach you some tricks about rythm and drumming. And I always try to play all instruments, if you have some, I'll be totally open to learn. Nowadays, I found a piano in the basement of my dormitory and I started to learn how to play it, maybe I can share my experiences about beginning.

And I always curious about new languages, when I go somewhere I usually want to communicate with local people with their own language if I can. That's why currently I 'm learning Polish and also French, and I'll always be open for other languages. Also if you want to learn some Turkish, of course I'll help you!
