About Me

Hotel rooms are boring, and the only real way to experience a place is through the eyes of someone who loves it enough to live there. I am fiercely proud of Durham, NC, and all its treasures, and I love showing them to visitors.

I've been told I'm a fun and low-maintenance guest, so just set aside a spot on the sofa and I'll pay for drinks.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I haven't couchsurfed much since joining; my current job involves far less travel than my last one. My girlfriend and I are, however, open to hosting on occasion.

As mentioned above, I just enjoy meeting new people.

Interests

In the past, I have kept chickens, renovated rooms in my home, traveled to faraway countries. This fall, I will be completing the multi-year restoration of a 1968 Ford pickup.

I love eating pickled things, sipping bourbon while watching Turner Classic Movies, and straight-up knocking back can after can of LaCroix.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm looking forward to someday finishing school and then reading books that aren't about computer science. I'm mostly into historical nonfiction like Nathan Philbrick or Simon Winchester--heavy on American history. My dalliances with fiction tend to be one-offs, as recommended by my friends who are awesome and cool and much smarter and better read than me.

Music tends mostly toward Americana--early Neko Case, Sturgill Simpson, the Sadies. But I love a bunch of other shit too: Sharon Van Etten, Future Islands, Thee Oh Sees, Houndstooth, Parquay Courts. Devo!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I entered a demolition derby--and then somehow won.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Brunch is on me, I insist.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bangladesh, England, France, Germany, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, Mexico, Qatar, Scotland
