ABOUT ME

american expat living in dubai since 2007.

basically, i discovered backpacking and independent travel about 10 yrs ago when i was doing a semester abroad in sydney. after one trip - i was hooked.

now it's the preferred method of travel. i just love going away and coming back with new friends from all walks of life.

PHILOSOPHY

basically, i want to see the world, meet cool people and generally have a good time. in the process, if i could find a cure for aids, end world hunger/poverty, stop war, that'd be awesome. (not that i'm actively trying - but i mean...wouldn't it be awesome to stumble upon a remedy to all the bad things in the world?)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

would love to meet up with travellers coming to dubai...haven't couchsurfed yet, but it's only a matter of time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i love the idea of couchsurfing. some friends invited a fellow couchsurfer they met in nepal to come visit the uae. next thing i know, i'm "hosting" him in dubai. sounds like a chore, but it was a great couple days! would love to do it again!

travel, music, sports, politics.

i'm on couchsurfing so i guess it's a no-brainer that i love to travel.

music? well, in my opinion, if music was a religion, the world would be a much better place. i love music.

sports? i'm a die-hard college basketball fan (duke, in case you're interested) but i pretty much love watching any and all sports. i wish i could play, but my coordination skills are severely lacking so...i stick to being a spectator.

politics? ok. this one maybe needs a little clarification 'cuz when i say i'm interested in politics, what i mean really is that i'm interested in learning about politics. just something i know relatively little about, and would like to know more about.

Musica, film e libri

movies: return to paradise, casino royale, love actually. really, anything not of the slapstick variety (a la will ferrell et al)

music: classical, funk, jazz, world music. again, really anything, with the exception of hip-hop/r&b. ugh. makes my skin crawl.

books: my favorite book ever is candide (voltaire) but favorite authors - bill bryson and nick hornby

seen? just one? i'd have to say iguassu falls, but there are soo many amazing places in the world!
