watching hundreds of elephant seals hanging out on the beautiful California coast.
Sedona, Arizona, especially at dawn and dusk, in mid-May.
I watched a great blue heron eat a tiny mallard duckling after snatching it up from its mother's envoy. It took him a few minutes, while the baby bird was still alive, flapping his wings from inside its beak, but it was a nice reminder of the brutal indifference of nature.
