CURRENT MISSION
Getting my PhD and meeting cool people along the way!
ABOUT ME
I just moved to Austin recently, and am settling into this city but it seems pretty nice so far. I do research on lithium ion batteries and have blacklight danceparties with my friends while drawing on each other with hilighter. Generally not at the same time. I have a minor in puppetry.
PHILOSOPHY
"Life's like a horse wearing a suit and smoking a cigar: Hard to explain."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I couchsurfed along europe a few months ago, and now that I'm back in Austin I'm ready to start hosting!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I met a bunch of couchsurfers in Singapore, and they were really fun people to hang out with, so I wanted to get into the community. I recently travelled across europe and had an amazing time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I took a course in ultraviolet/blacklight puppetry at my college. Our final exam was to do an interpretation of "Acid Queen" by the Who, and make it really trippy. We all dressed in black except for one girl who wore hot pink fishnets that glowed under the blacklight, and we held up things that glowed and made it look like everything was floating.

I spent a summer working on a scanning tunneling microscope, which lets you take images that are zoomed in so far that you can see actual atoms, like this http://www.nanotec.es/applications/gallery/miscelaneous//3/current_stm_hopg.jpg .
Scanning Tunneling Microscopes work by using something called "quantum tunneling", which basically means electrons can teleport from one point to another, without ever being anywhere in the middle. The number of electrons that teleport is based on how close the points are to each other. So what we do is put a lot of electrons on a sharp microscope tip, then see how many of them jump to the sample that we want to take an image of. This lets us see how far away the sample is. We keep moving the tip, and it lets us see how far away different points are, letting us take an image of the whole sample. Quantum Mechanics is cool stuff!
