À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

My wife and I love sharing life with people around the world. For summer 2015 we are exploring the countries and cultures of Europe, and later we hope to experience the rest of the world. To meet the people of a culture and seek to understand them, to taste the food, feel the pace, breathe the air and be grateful.

ABOUT ME

Friendly and easygoing, I enjoy meeting new people and am an easy traveler. As an Eagle Scout, I have slept many nights under the stars and can sleep easily on almost any couch, bed or floor. My optimistic personality nearly always sees the positive and my smile is always ready. I am a musician, a hard worker, a reader (I love audiobooks), a joker, an excellent Taboo player, a cowboy, a technology entrepreneur and an avid traveller.

PHILOSOPHY

Live fully alive... to be what I am made to be with excellence and delight. I am unique and have a distinct mix of strengths, gifts and also weaknesses. I do not envy those with different gifts, but rather am grateful for those people.
I seek to know truth and to live well, to love people and to care for the earth, to do justly, love mercy and walk in humility. My understanding is like an island... the greater my knowledge grows, the greater the shoreline of my ignorance.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2012 I traveled through Europe and surfed at various places around Italy, France, Belgium, Amsterdam and some wwoofing in Italy again.
I gratefully accept a place to sleep, love tasting local food, and enjoy meeting local friends.

I came back in the USA and moved to Austin, TX. I found the love of my life and married her. Now we love paying-forward the gifts of hospitality that we have received from so many people over the years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Throughout my life I have stayed with friends and host families across the USA and abroad. I've stayed with people in 10+ countries through couchsurfing, housesitting, WWOOF, HelpX, AirBnb Volunteering, and just meeting new friends in a new town. Some of my best friends are people I met while staying with them or their family or friends.
I have many times hosted a friend passing through or even visiting artists or performers. During hurricane Katrina, my family hosted 8 people for the week.

Centres d'intérêt

I enjoy adventures of almost any kind. From the thrill of flying down a mountain trail on a bike, riding horses through the woods, or climbing almost anything vertical, to the more refined pleasures of wandering through a worldclass art or history museum or soaking up the sounds of live music, I enjoy the glory of being fully alive.
I love communication and a good rich conversation. I love accents from around the US and the world and I am learning Italian and French as I go.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Yes. As much as possible.

My wife and I love action movies and spy films. I am a sucker for super-hero movies and my wife loves police dramas and period pieces.

I've consumed many audiobooks and keep 10 or more on my phone at all times. I also collect books about relationships and communication, leadership, finance, faith, family, and technology.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Standing on a mountaintop at sunrise, watching the sunset over the mediteranean...
singing and listening to the echoing music in 50+ cathedrals in Italy,
galloping a horse up a mountain in Tuscany, riding 15km downhill on a bike near Savona.
doing barrel rolls on a waterski tube behind a skiboat in Louisiana, windsurf practice in Cancun
travelling the bulk of Europe and over half of the states in the USA, service project in Alberta, Choir tour in Austria, business trip to Ireland, low ropes course certified, built a skateboard park with my brother, I was spiderman for a costume party... but I not sure it was just a costume.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I believe not only in the principle of "leave no trace" camping, but also in the practice of improving anything that I use.
I feel that this planet belongs to me...
so I pick up trash when I did not put it down,
fix toilets and toys that are not mine,
show appreciation for whatever is given to me,
and return whatever is loaned to me in excellent condition.
Blessing>grattitude>responsibility>goodwill>blessing

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I'm generally able to fix things, hardware, computers, and tools.
I enjoy deep cleaning projects. I'm not neurotic, I just enjoy seeing the improvement.

I love singing and I'm pretty good with learning new accents. I can coach English pronunciation in several accents.

My wife and I have a general enthusiasm about life and new places, and tend to make time more pleasant. We also love to cook and can make something tasty from almost any ingredients.
