ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Maya and I'm a 23 year old graduate student at Emory University. I love meeting new people, exploring, learning new languages and drinking beer. I think the best way to see a city is through the eyes of a local, and I can't wait to learn all about your city!

I am an easy going person and I can be very flexible and open minded. I love to meet all kinds of people, especially those who challenge my beliefs and cause me to change the way I think about things.

I am not much of a party animal, and I would much rather have a political discussion over a beer then spend my night dancing in a club. I enjoy going on walks, drinking coffee, and going to trivia nights at local bars with my friends. I run, hike, bike ride regularly and enjoy being active and spending time in the sun.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe everything happens for a reason, and everyone who comes into our lives is meant to change us for the better. I find myself always looking for the reason that good or bad things happen and appreciating how important the people in my life are to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I come from a family of professional Jazz musicians so I have a soft spot for Jazz music, but I like rock and acoustic a lot too. I love mystery and lawyer type books and my favorite author is Richard North-Patterson (like John Grisham but better!). I don't usually have a long enough attention span to watch many movies, but I love the kind of movies that make you think for days afterward, contemplating the complexities. A Beautiful Mind is a great one for that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 15 I rescued a beautiful thoroughbred race horse from the slaughterhouse. I bought her by the pound and spent 3 years teaching her to trust humans, rehabilitating her leg (the reason she was taken off the track) and training her to be a great kids horse. When I was 18 I went off to college and gave her to a sweet 12 year old whose parents were going through a very messy divorce. They are still so happy together and I get emails with updates and pictures regularly. That was the most satisfying thing I have ever done, and although i'm not sure it counts as "amazing" it sure felt it :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and have been working hard on my Italian recipes, learning from my Italian boss. I would love to come make some great meals with you! I always love to learn new ways to cook and I really love to experiment in the kitchen. After I make a recipe once I never do it the same again- my dad calls it "Jazz Cooking."

I also love running, and would love to accompany you on a nice run around your city!
