About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I thrive on being of service, being an entertainer, storyteller. Hope to hook up with Swing Dancers. I gravitate toward Adventurers, Rainbow people, Burners, Commune members, Huggers, Artists, Prankers, Dumpster divers, Alt.lifestyles,Etc

ABOUT ME

I've had more than my share of great experiences, but there are so many more left to do. I look forward not only to associating with "celebrities" and "important" people, but also hanging out with laborers, field hands, homeless. I love to try things I've never even heard of. I sometimes travel no itinerary....just have faith that interesting things and people will materialize. I think that my tendency to expect things to happen has allowed me to experience so many amazing things and social situations.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that we need to keep our eyes open and see the constant opportunities we have to make differences. We will get more personal gratification out of feeling that we have been helpful than being the audience, tourist, guest. After we have invented useful techniques, joined in worthwhile efforts or facilitated projects we are able to sleep well. There are small accomplishments which are every bit as important as some of the more grandiose projects. Of course we have to be ready to realize that there will always be more than we can do and not all our efforts will turn out as we had planned.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have any set participation style. Sometimes I am a faithful helper. Sometimes I assume leadership both in getting logistical tasks done and in bringing about recreational activities. Often I add elements of entertainment. I while people seem to enjoy learning about my adventures but I try to limit the telling so I can learn from my hosts. Really I would much rather get involved in some kind of a work project, a decoration activity or a joint meal preparation than to sit around sharing our past. . I often get off the beaten path both in where I go and in the way I interact. I enjoy a good prank or practical joke.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Long before "couch surfers" was organized. I had hitchhiked, biked, stowed away, for 30,000+ miles. Traveled in 33 countries, 48 states. Attended 100s of of conferences, conventions, meetings {most often as a volunteer, sometimes as a leader). I can count on my fingers...maybe toes, the number of times I have paid to stay in a Hotel. I occasionally use hostels. I have found that hostelers can often give good advice on things to do and not to do in places I plan to visit.
I have been a SERVAS Traveler and Host for 40 years. Often bring hitchhikers home. I've lived or stayed in group houses, communes, work projects, growth centers, crash pads, deserted buildings, police stations. (I don't advise police stations because if you are on an interesting adventure they will keep you up till the wee hours listening to your stories. Then at 6 or seven they have everyone clear out of the bunks.
When I led a 10 week AYH bike/train trip I introduced the group into many alternative ways to travel and find free housing. I had requestied that the AYH not arrange our lodging as they routinely do. They agreed since they knew that I could find my own. I saved much of our money designated for housing and food to do things we were not budgeted for, (rented a van to go to the Grand Canyon, horses to go down the canyon, Canoes for a the Current River trip, Disneyland, unplanned bus trips, entrances to several events.) Whenever we had a chance to stay in someone's home or in some group's facillities I would look for a project to do before we left. On the AYH trip a couple met us and ended up keeping all 11 of us for two nights. On the third day We cleaned every room in the house, 3 of us totally emptied a cluttered double garage, hosed it out and helped Mrs Commander organize about 1/2 of the things and discard the rest. She was totally amazed at all the undertakings. Of course the group was totally proud of themselves. When I met up with a couple members of the trip years later they said the trip was the one which been a tremendous influence on their lives.

Music, Movies, and Books

extremely eclectic, I am not well read. My early eye problems and my ADD, maybe ADHD (they didn't have such categories in the 60s). These have delayed me in reading/school tasks and left me with many blocks toward office tasks. (in most other pursuits I have usually excelled)

I like movies where people have helped solve great problems. I like the underdog to win.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moondancer's Enchanted Forest (M E F). I decided that Rainbow Gatherings could use some new options. More options in types of activities, dancing, music. Rainbow Gatherings were great because I didn't have to ask for permission since people could do what they wanted to do. With help from many brothers and sisters who came to help, each year I added different things to my camp. Large stage, different type of music/dance each night, Fantuzzi's talent night, massage parlor, gourmet kitchen, dinner theater,Hug Center,Costume shop, lessons, workshops, silk screening, candle making, huge crash pad, 3person cable ride, giant swings, light mobile. You get the idea. There was one disappointment I had. I anticipated that M E F would inspire others to do similarly ambitious things with their camps. There were a few people who have been inspired. "Mom" volunteered at M E F and the next year Mom's Kitchen was one of the best. On the other hand I found many had decided against doing things because "we don't need to do that, Moondancer is aleady doing one" After 4 years I decided to stay away a fet years so so I would not be encouraging dependency on MEF. I think this worked because Granola Funk soon developed. It excelled in meeting some of the goals of M E F. (I would still be eager to help any group in developing another camp which presented a variety of dance nights)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an inveterate teacher. I have work at holding myself back. I have taught such a wide variety of subjects and skills. Everything from leadership, life planning, non-violence, 60 kinds of hugs, many recreational skills, aerobics, yoga, swimming, canoeing, drama, dance, cooking, arts, crafts, magic, Scoutcrafts, marketing, Santa classes,

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy sharing the things I have experienced and learned and come to believe in. I hope I have a chance to come to know my Hosts. I will know them more when I can take part in their lives whenever the opportunity arises. I enjoy helping a host fix something, help around the house, teach their children a new game, present my rendition of a popular short story, maybe give a short swing (jitterbug) lesson.
