About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Saying yes

ABOUT ME

Sharing experiences is one the best ways to learn about yourself, the world, etc. I am patient and want to make people feel comfortable enough to be themselves around me, but that doesn't mean I don't like to crack jokes too, so if you can handle a healthy dose of sarcasm, we will get along. I am very conscious about my health, so I love to cook, even though I'm not very good at it. I am a musical person, passionate about gender/race/class issues and very politically-minded so I do not have tolerance for bigotry. I do have a high tolerance for Chris Weisman and wine.

Things I left off because they are somewhat negative:
I am overly passive and have a hard time making decisions. I'm pretty emotional and cry easy. I have a tendency to go silent for long periods of time.

PHILOSOPHY

"Confidence: walking into a rainstorm of daggers with an umbrella full of holes"
-Alejandro Jodorowsky

"I want the lord to play my cards/if that means hitting me by a car"
-Chris Weisman

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Spent 3 nights in Barcelona and 2 nights in Bilbao thru couchsurfing. In Barcelona I was just meeting up with a friend who was staying with a host and when I showed up, he let me stay for 3 nights!

Interests

I am very interested in music, writing it, hearing it, playing it, (watching it?), etc. I like to do field recordings of music and sound and want to travel and record sounds from all over the world. I am not into ethnomusicology (though I may listen to recordings done in this vein) since it's a pretty Western-centric way of understanding music and tries to translate an untranslatable experience. I like the way it makes me feel, and I don't want to sell that and forward my career with the works of others. Playing music is what brings me the most joy in life so far.

I love discussing politics. I use my ears to the fullest extent in conversation and am eager to understand the motivations behind one's thoughts, and do not simply dismiss them because I disagree. Though I do dismiss ideas that have no basis in reality.

As a student of anthropology, I am very interested in travel as a way to construct counter-hegemonic discourses of life outside the US. Travel is about making yourself more aware, and awareness is essential.

I am interested in film, learning languages, hiking, dogs, friends, making art, optical illusions, tarot cards. I am not easily bored.

Currently,
Movie: The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowksy
Music: Fresh Sip by Chris Weisman
Book: Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
But of course, a whole lot more of each.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing my friends smiling

Teach, Learn, Share

I play drums, guitar and piano, so I'd be more than willing to give instruction on any of those. I've taught drums and guitar before, and I know that I love to do it.
