À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

To combine freedom and repsonsibility in a way that I heve never imagined before...

ABOUT ME

That's impossible... 'all about me'... I am very fond of moving, of being on the road, also moving my body, doing sports, dancing. I love to explore things I am not familiar with, and I can get enthousiastic about a great many things. Try me!

I have an interest in what makes people tick, as well as in what we as a species are heading towards, and in what we can do to make the outcome worthwhile... after all, it is us and those after us that have to live with the results.

PHILOSOPHY

If you cannot see God in all, you cannot see God at all.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have sort of haphazardly decided to include the option of CS in my travelling plans for this summer. I am going to cycle through the full length of Portugal, and until yesterday I only thought of the camping-option. But why, when there are so many nice people around the country that might offer me their hopspitality and / or their couch?

When I thought of receiving people at my couch, it made me sort of smile inside. You are more than welcome - that is, when I'm around.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None, so far, but hopefully this will change in the very near future.

Centres d'intérêt

I love dancing, I meditate and nowadays I even pray - I'm still geting used to that, but I found it really works. I am very fond of cooking, for myself as well as others. I prefer vegetarian fair but eat an occasional animal, to keep the balance - and some do taste really well.

I read when there is time for that. Buddhism, explorations of the mind in all imaginable ways - or many, at least. I love movies that show the struggle of man with him/herself, I prefer to spend at least a week every year on my own camping out in nature, it brings me so much joy and richness of experience.

I run, I cycle and I have very recently taken on yoga as a means to take care of the deeper layers of my body. I love travelling, I used to be a very solo-traveller but nowadays I find it is more enjoyable to keep a balance between togetherness and solitude.

Interests... many more. How we depend on nature for our survival and how we treat it. How we deal with differences among us.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: Ben Harper, Michael Franti, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Heather Nova, Krishna Das and Leonard Cohen. A great many more, of course, but this should give an idea of what I like.

Books: Studious stuff about how the mind works, how shamans have travelled through consciousness... Stories like 'What is the What' (Dave Eggers) touch me deeply. Paul Auster, Paul Auster, Paul Auster. Again, so much more, but this is a good shortlist.

Movies... I went to see Howl, on Allen Ginsberg, this afternoon. Powerful, even though the animations were rather poor. I like the guy and the controversy he stirred up. Somewhere, that's a beautiful movie. Biutiful, too. Les Petits Mouchoirs. Etcetera etcetera.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

...the ghats of Varanasí stand out in my experience. But also the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Andes, the Himalayas... the Amazon rainforest too. The temples of Tikal, in Guatemala. and Amsterdam has its charm, too. And people, people, people.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

hmmm... as a teacher of geography, I'd prefer to teach something entirely different. An open mind, to begin with - is that something people may benefit from? I don't know... you decide!
