About Me

Mum of a 3.5yr old boy. Figuring out motherhood! Below is my old profile...haven't been on in a few years! Unfortunately I can't host, but interested in meeting up in my area with traveling parents and their kids at a park, pool etc!

CURRENT MISSION

To walk in love, peace and faith

ABOUT ME

I am just finishing up a year of teaching at a small Eikaiwa in Sendai, Japan. I grew up in Langley, BC Canada and went to university in Vancouver at UBC, studying Psychology and Biology. I spent my 3rd year on exchange at the University of Glasgow in Scotland which I can easily say was the best year of my life so far! (Spend some time in Glasgow if you've never been!). After university I worked for a year in Vancouver at a call centre for an Employee and Family Assistance Provider (our company provided counselling packages to other companies). It was definately one of the most challenging but rewarding jobs I've had - I worked in the national call centre doing intake counselling for those calling in needing help with anything from addictions to bereavement.
I then caught the travel bug from my brother who has been to or lived in almost 40 countries. I decided to try teaching English for a few years so I could see the world and meet people from different cultures while learning a new skill. It's been amazing so far! My year in Japan has been the most challenging in all the right ways and has brought me into contact with amazing people and experiences that I will never forget. I'll head back to Canada for a short while to plan my next adventure :)

PHILOSOPHY

I walk with Jesus! I try to live sharing love with everyone I meet.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love classic black & white movies (my favourite actress is Audrey Hepburn), I also like anything from a girlie movies to Star Wars and Harry Potter.
My favourite (or most inspirational) books are: the Bible, Chasing the Dragon, Letters from a Sceptic, anything Jane Austen, and Harry Potter (all 7!)
I like alternative music, rock, classic bands like the Beatles (my favourite band), and classical music (my Mum's side of the family is British so I grew up listening to both classical music and the Beatles :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have more than 1 !
*Being in the remote market village of Tlaxiaco in Oaxaca, Mexico and being offered gifts of mangoes by an elderly woman who obviously didn't have much herself.
*Someone once said I've saved their life: my friend's hair caught on fire from a candle and I was the first to notice and start hitting her to put it out!
*The kindness of strangers, in my home country or abroad. It's those small acts of grace and generosity that make this world go round.

Teach, Learn, Share

hmmm I studied French for 12 years but can't really speak it well, but I am ok at the basics.
I make a mean spinach strawberry salad, as well as 20-minute pizzas :)
I lived in Scotland and Japan so I can share my experiences in those cultures.
I know very limited Spanish and Japanese and would love to practice and learn more.
I want to learn how to be a good cook!
I also would love to learn the Balalaika (instrument in the movie Dr. Schivago)
