Create a Marvelous Circus!
I am currently based out of Ottawa, humbly doing my best to obliterate the illusion of reality that controls our collective imagination.
I am a circus freak, drummer, medic, activist, a land-dwelling Earthling simian carbon-based life-form and I really like water, fire, earth, and air.
I live with my lover Zola and an ever-changing cast of miscreants & outsiders. We live our lives as passionately as we know how to do. We try to live up to beautiful values and don't always succeed, but we never give up. We persevere, we try to learn and heal and support our friends and create spaces where people feel free to be who they are and to become who they want to be.
I'm an adventurer by nature. I took off at 16 hitchhiking from Ottawa to the West Coast and have had many many wild times and lots and lots of stories. I've always had a sense that the options provided by this society were fake, and that authentic experience was being hidden behind the facade of city life. It has taken me a lot of searching, but I have found what I was looking for, and discovered the unity of self and world that I always sensed the absence of. I'm not searching anymore. I am learning how to listen to the rhythms of nature that the noise of traffic blocks out. I am in a time of transition in my life - from the goal of self-discovery to the creation of the kind of conditions for my life that I want to see around me.
I've travelled all over Turtle Island, from Dawson City to Tofino to Newfoundland to Chiapas and Guatemala. I have had many great adventures and my experiences have taught me a great love and respect for this great land.
And love to me is not merely a feeling, but a desire to give of oneself for the benefit of another. So I do my best to fight for the wild, for the water, for the animals, forest, air and Mother Earth. If humanity is to have a future worth living, we must take action now to prevent the degradation of the natural world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Since May, my lover Zola and I have hosted many many many many guests at our collective houses in Ottawa.
I began CouchSurfing in the spring of 2010 and since then I've couchsurfed in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Buffalo, Dallas, Austin, Mexico City, Veracruz, and many other places. It was real awesome. Nothing compares to being introduced to a city by someone who knows it well. My collective houses have also hosted dozens of guests.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Rock'n'roll is in my soul. I am a punk rocker and punk rock is still a part of identity, but my taste in music has diversified over the years and I like a lot of more mellow music now. But driving, chaotic, fast and loud frenetic, energetic rock'n'rock is the music that defines me the most. But I've got a spectrum of music that I like to listen to, from hyper and manic (the Stooges) to heavy and dark (Joy Division). Some music I love I won't even be able to listen to if I'm not in the mood for it. But the common thread that runs through all the music most dear to my heart is that of the outsider artist. I like mythically freaky figures like Howlin' Wolf, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Muddy Waters, Captain Beefheart, Patti Smith, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Fela Kuti, Bob Dylan, Nina Hagen, Devendra Banhart, Daniel Johnston, Nina Simone, Iggy Pop, etc. As much as I like the strange and outlandish, I also love folk music. I love music that speaks to me on that primal level where I just know that the artist or band is putting their very soul(s) into their art.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One thing I did was hitchhike from Ottawa, Ontario to Dawson City, Yukon, when I was 18. I had decided to visit my friend who was living there at the time but didn´t tell her I was coming because I wanted to surprise her. It took me 11 days and I lost my backpack along the way (it fell out of the back canopy of a pick-up truck), so I arrived in Dawson City with nothing but the clothes on my back. I walked downtown, bought a bag of chips and sat down in a parking lot. I didn´t have Justine´s number, address, or any way of getting ahold of her. Just then a car pulled into the parking. Who should happen to get out? Justine! She was surprised all right. I think those 11 days were the closest I ever came to becoming one with the road.
