About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a bilingual multiculturalist computer scientist. I grew up on the soccer fields and bike trails of Minneapolis, MN. I like singing, snapping, whistling, playing the accordion, and making musical merry together. I love riding bikes and enjoying the great outdoors. I am tall, skinny and smiling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one? But I can't choose!

I studied abroad for 6 months in Madrid, Spain. There are too many cool stories to list here. Details are available on my blog:
http://carlschroedl.com/blog/travel/

One night I discovered a drunken theater troupe pedaling a bicycle-powered wheeled cabin while carousing the bike paths of Minneapolis.

In high school I burst my middle-class English-speaking Caucasian bubble by playing as the only white kid on an inner city youth soccer team for two years. I learned a lot of linguistic and cultural lessons that they can't teach you in a classroom.

While cycle-touring from Minneapolis, MN to Madison, WI, I met a fellow cycletourist in the middle of nowhere. He was a German named Richard. I admired Richard's sense of adventure because he had decided to spend his summer between high school and university traversing a country where they spoke a language that he "got D's in" throughout high school. We rode together. We compared and contrasted American and German culture. We discussed the energetic sustainability of societies. I learned part of the German national anthem. I hosted him at my place in Madison for a few days before sending him on his way. We keep in touch.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: Computer Programming, Bike Maintenance, Spanish, and English.

I'd like to learn: more about all of the above, small-scale agricultural techniques, ecology, geology, music.

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Sweden
