About Me

Hi there! I'm Carlos Morente, a 23 years old spanish guy. I grew up in a small village called Mollina, in the center of Andalusia. My family always worked in the oil and olives production, but I always felt like I didn't belong to that world. I always enjoyed math, abstract problems and of course, computer science! I had my first PC when I was 5 and I knew since that moment what I liked. That's why when I was 17 I moved alone to Málaga to become a software engineer.

One of my passions was also football. But I didn't feel like the other guys in that aspect. I liked the referee role. That's why when I ended uni I became a football referee and omg, I should've done it before. I love it because it's a good way to travel a lot around all the small villages and making new friends.

Other important aspect is my nutrition. I've had a lot of problems with my stomach since I was 15 (which it lately turned into a hiatal hernia). Also the fact that I love animals and the tiredness of practically only eating meat (it's difficult to not do that in a small village in Spain) made me consider to become vegetarian. And that was one of my best decisions ever! I feel better and stronger than ever, and I don't have to be going to the hospital every two months like I needed before. I hope that if you host me you understand my decision, but I can buy and cook my food if you want!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think that Couchsurfing is a good social platform to know the insights of other places. I don't like the "regular" travels to hotels and common places. If you want, I would like to be with you, meet your friends and grab some beers in strange places. Of course I would love to see the museums and historical places of your city, but my main goal is to make good friends all around the world.

On the other hand, I love to treat my hosts as I would like them to treat me. I can't host as much people as I would like for two reasons. First, my roommates change from time to time and sometimes they love to host people but other ones don't like it at all. Though I don't like it, I respect their decision. Finally, I like to spend as much time as I can with my guests, so they have an amazing experience. If we can arrange something at my place, believe it's going to be amazing!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love nearly all kinds of music. I hear a lot of rock, metal, reggae, rap, trap, ska, punk, and the list goes on and on. I also LOVE Eurovision Song Contest since I was a little kid. I play the ukulele and try to sing (at least in the shower :P)

I've never been into movies, but I'm more than welcome to watch movies if you want! I love animation TV shows like Rick and Morty, BoJack Horseman, etc.

I'm also a newbie at reading, but I'm starting to read Brandon Sanderson's books, which I like a lot. They are super cool and well written. If you can give me any recommendations it'll be a pleasure!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe not something that I did, but the most amazing things that I have in my life are my family and my friends. I really love them.

I'm also very proud of helping with UNHCR because I think that people should have the rights to live wherever they want, and even more if they need it. I only support them with money nowadays, but I'm considering to become a volunteer in a conflict zone to help those in need.
