Pre-grad school road trip!

ABOUT ME

We just graduated from Yale, and are going on a road trip before we continue our educations- Monica will be getting her PhD, so she'll be at school for another 6 years, and Carly is going to law school for another 3. Meaning we really need to get a grip on our wanderlust after this year! We are friendly, relaxed and trying to see as much of the country as possible on a pretty slim budget, as we'll both be living off of loans for the foreseeable future. We look forward to meeting new people and promise to be fun, polite and considerate guests!

PHILOSOPHY

This is hard to describe for two people; at the moment, we're just enjoying the US of A and looking forward to the future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, neither of us can host; we're homeless students in between different schools, and neither of us have found housing for next year just yet. But especially if our first couchsurfing experiences are good this summer, we look forward to being more active members as we get move into our own places. In the meantime, we'd love to meet people while we travel or have people get in touch with us for coffee or pointers when we get back home!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A few stops on our road trip, all of which were great. We're hoping to break up our nights camping with some couch surfing to get a better sense of the cities and towns we're hoping to see.

Interests

We are both musicians (euphonium (don't ask) and French horn), both read a lot, and both love camping and traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Carly has been reading a lot of Alice Munro short stories recently. Also loves East of Eden, anything by Fitzgerald, Life of Pi, Lolita, and lots of other things. I'm not sure if I can really describe my taste accurately...

Not sure about Monica, will update soon... our car tends to have a lot of Dylan and Willie Nelson playing in it, though highway dance parties and sing-a-longs are also pretty frequent occurrences.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Iguazu Falls in Brazil was Carly's most breathtaking moment, though a night sleeping in the open air in a hammock in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest (just after catching our own piranhas for dinner!!!) probably sounds more exciting. Monica's favorite was Real de Catorce in Mexico- it's an unbelievable hidden mountain town, it's hard to do it justice in writing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Right now, Carly's head is full of fascinating but largely useless information from an interdisciplinary liberal arts degree, and Monica's is full of crazy engineering information. We can teach you how to play the euphonium or the french horn, though, if you'd like. Or how to tie a bear bag to keep your food safe, should you go camping. If you wanted to teach us easy local recipes, we would be forever grateful!
