我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I learned about Couchsurfing recently at a dinner party. Gary and Wendy have been Couchsurfing for years and they told me about all of their amazing experiences they have had through Couchsurfing. They have traveled so much and met so many generous and friendly people. I am on Couchsurfing because I believe that meeting local people in the places we go brings the world together in a way that no amount of media, news videos etc can do. I traveled to Greece in college and meeting the local restaurant proprietors and spending time with them was some of the most meaningful and memorable parts of the trip. I want to really engage in life and get the most out of every experience which means making new friends and memories that will stay with me.

Right now I am mostly listening to the radio, so current current music etc. But I do really love the classic rock such as Van Morrison, CCR, Steely Dan. Some of my most listened to Pandora radio stations include Classic Rock Radio, Today's Hits, Adel Radio, Women in Folk, Yoga Radio, and Hipster Cocktail Party!

My husband and I don't go out to the movies much, but we do watch many on TV. Some of my all time favorites include the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones, Love Actually ( I guess I am a bit of an Anglofile). The Great British Bake Off! When watching with my husband we love Alone, I am not sure if it is History or Discovery channel, but it is a survival show where survivalists have to make it as long as they can with just 10 tools in the wilderness alone. Also Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, anything from the Marvel Universe...

Books: I do love books, but I think I love getting them more than I love reading them. I find myself watching more TV than reading books even though I wish I read more. My current reads include Nourishing Traditions a politically incorrect cookbook/nutrition guide, The Alanna series (a young adult fiction reread from my youth), acupuncture books , wild edible guides and many more that I wish I was reading.

In my twenties I worked as an instructor for an outdoor company called Outward Bound. I was leading a trip for 12 teens with another co-instructor. It was towards the end of the course so our food supplies were a mix of bits and pieces mixed into bags of food trash. We never camp where we hang out food, so I was down at the kitchen area while my co-instructor and students were up the hill at camp. I was sorting out the good from the bad food so I had it all spread around me in a semi circle on the ground. While squating down I got the feeling that someone was watching me. I turn around and look behind me. Standing there on the path between me and the rest of my group is a black bear. As soon as I turn around I accidentally lock eyes with the bear. At this point my heart is racing. My mind has gone blank. The bear can't be more than 20 yards from me. I literally have one thought. "If I do this, I better make it believable." I stand up through my arms above my head and charge the bear bellowing as loudly as I can. Thankfully, the bear took off into the woods. My co-instructor came running down the hill with the bear spray and air horn. Together we continued to chase the bear off until it ran away for good.

I guess I know that in an emergency situation with a fight or flight choice, I guess I know I would fight!
