ABOUT ME

My friends would primarily note how ambitious and busy I am (but in a good way). I have more interests than I can accommodate, but I definitely try. I am passionate about life. I am easy to get along with and easy to laugh, level-headed, and relaxed.

PHILOSOPHY

In general, it's incredibly important to me to treat other people well. I'm a passionate person but am relaxed, quick to smile and laugh, and am very easy to get along with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am just beginning to explore this community as a way to travel. I've always wanted to travel but haven't had much opportunity to, especially due to financial circumstances. This might allow me to stretch my resources, meet new people, and visit some new places.

Interests

I spend a lot of time with music in my life, either singing at open mics, writing or playing a song with friends, or seeing some live music. I love the outdoors - my background is marine biology, and I am fascinated by the biology of the world around me. I love writing and culture and art. I also just enjoy good friends and conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love so much music, lots of Indie Rock. Bands I like include U2, Tori Amos, The Killers, The yeah yeah yeahs, the black keys, Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, Delta Spirit, Middle Brother, Devil Makes Three, A Fine Frenzy, Decemberists, Joe Purdy, Kelly Joe Phelps, Amanda Jennsen, The XX, Fiction Family, Deer Tick, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Radiohead, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, Mutemath, Swell Season, Rocco Deluca, Tom Mcrae, etc.

For books, I love anything with beautiful words and language influenced by sounds. Zora Neal Hurtson, Jonathan Saffron Faur - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The River King - Alice Hoffman, The Ground Beneath Her Feet (and anything else Salman Rushdie), The Graveyard Book and other Neil Gaiman stories ,The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I also love poetry, especially the beat poets.

Movies - Stranger Than Fiction, Love Actually, 28 Days Later, The Crow, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Stage Beauty, Closer, Amalie, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Saint, Sunshine Cleaning, The lookout, Hedwig and the Angry inch, Moon, Royal Tennenbaums...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent time on a right whale ecology research cruise. There are only 300-400 North Atlantic right whales left, so it was an amazing opportunity. There's something stunning about hearing them break the water's surface next to the ship, and watch them till through patches of zooplankton like cetacean lawn-mowers.

My recent trip to Costa Rica was also breath-taking. Leaf-cutter ants, sloths, butterflies, the chorus of life in the rainforest.
