About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Immediate pleasure

ABOUT ME

I quit a job working as an economist in May of 2011 to travel across America on bike. Since I got back I've been living on my savings writing fiction full time. It turns out getting paid for writing about your feelings is really hard, so since August of 2013, in an effort to save money, I've been living abroad. So far, that's included living in Colombia and Yunnan, China.

PHILOSOPHY

Introspective hedonism - I try to think really hard about what will make me happy and then pursue without regard for the costs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I can, I'm eager to host any and all travelers, in order to give back what hosts all around the world have given me. When traveling, I try to be as engaging as I can. That usually means either going on an adventure with my host or trying to learn about them by asking a lot of questions. Note that this is totally selfish: if you're interesting, I will steal your personality for my writing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only had positive experiences, either by hosting cool people or staying with super generous people. The hosts being generous ranges from cooking all my meals for me and refusing any help to leaving me alone and letting me write for eight hours a day.

Interests

I love any sort of good narrative, fiction, non fiction, movies, television. I'm also a nerd for economics, psychology, sociology, and space, which when you think about it, is the dumbest name for something ever.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Really hard to say, not because I love all books, but because what I love changes with my day. A month ago I was only reading sad books about sex, this month I'm reading hard sci fi about Mars. I loved them both equally because it's the mood I was/am in. This is like asking, "Who are you right now?" It's hard to answer unless I'm in a conversation with someone.

Movies: Movies are a little bit easier, because there are a few I'll always watch. Resevoir Dogs, Psycho, and Resevoir Dogs especially. Oh, and the Graduate. I will always love The Graduate

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This one is also hard to answer. A lot of the greatest experiences I've had were while sitting quietly and either reading or writing. But one of my proudest moments was when I ate double breakfast three days in a row. That's when you order two full meals from a restaurant and eat them both. Three days in a row!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you don't have anything nice to say, be interesting. Mean and interesting is way better than neutral and quiet.
