My name is Qamar. It means 'moon' in Arabic (قمر). I was born in Hawaii--which technically makes me a Kama Aina--and raised in San Diego, California--which makes me a Pacific Rim native. In school I studied art and Japanese language, I attended study abroad and cemented my adoption of Japanese culture. Upon graduation, my good friend connected me to a job teaching ESL in Japan for three years. I returned back to work in Japanese language for three years until I started grad school in Rehabilitation Counseling.

Casa de Calafia is a quiet home nestled in the enchanted hills of Encanto, San Diego’c community of Broadway Heights. Home to Mediterranean hills and hidden corners reminiscent of Southern France of Spanish Madrid, you’ll find yourself i a cozy neighborhood filled with chirping birds, beautiful sunsets, friendly neighbors and cool evening winds.

Casa de Calafia is three bedroom, two bath abode with tiled floors, insulated walls, ventilated with ceiling fans, a spacious dining room and kitchen, and an outdoor Jacuzzi. The backyard rises with a stepped hill with a microvineyard in the works, topped with a breathtaking view of the Encanto area.
The home with an extensive library that includes books on American history, Western classics, African history texts, psychology publications and much more. There is also media library of vintage vinyl, international music and R&B and plethora of film on DVD, VHS and Betamax. In addition we offer a solid wi-fi connection and a television that features both Netflix and Amazon movies.

The Inn features two baths and a quiet enclosed front yard.with a small bonsai garden outside the two guestrooms. Every morning guests here are greeted with the interplay of songs of sparrows, orioles and turtledoves.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once saw a lighting and thunder storm crackle and stir above the Grand Canyon of the North American Southwest. It was a dark amass of the Heavens. And as it passed refracted out of the light appeared a beautiful rainbow. It was beautiful.
