To learn, grow, evolve, and become the kind of person I'd like to know

ABOUT ME

I am trying to figure out how to save the world and have fun at the same time. Currently I mostly just have fun. I live in Berkeley, work in San Francisco doing temp work and that's how I occupy most of my time. Most of my mental/emotional energy is spent volunteering and organizing with the Bay Area Childcare Collective, starting an English/Spanish language exchange/partnership program and working to help get a medical cannabis dispensary off the ground. I am also partner to my wonderful partner and mom to our adorable rescued dog, Bandit. I'm learning to play the guitar and have a garden growing in my backyard full of kale, collard greens, strawberries, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce and chard. I kind of have a wonderful existence.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm in the process of building a personal philosophy and I am hoping that this trip and my experiences from here on out will help with that. My philosophy is one of constantly learning and unlearning.

This sounds pretty heavy, so I'd like to state for the record that having fun is always included in my ever changing personal philosophy. And being nice to living beings. Other than that it's a work in progress. I'll keep you posted as I figure things out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used couch surfing while I was biking across Wisconsin and loved it a lot! I met some really beautiful and amazing people and it was a totally wonderful experience. I want to share that with others, but I'm kind of crazy busy right now and have a small space. Hopefully things will calm down soon and I can open up my home to some fellow travelers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently reading Just Food and Making a Killing: Femicide, Free Trade and La Frontera

Like most people, I enjoy lots of music, but I am particularly fond of The Hold Steady, Bright Eyes, Wingnut Dishwasher's Union and the Magnetic Fields. I used to be really into Phish and other hippie jam bands, and I will always have a place in my heart for upbeat pop music, a la Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus.

Jeez, I don't know what to say about movies. I saw Inception recently and thought it was very good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode my bike from Wisconsin to Minneapolis alone and it was pretty amazing. I didn't think I'd be able to do something like that until I just went ahead and did it. I think a lot of things are like that.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am vegan and know a fair amount about animal rights if you'd like to talk about it. I am also a pretty dope cook if you are curious about vegan cooking or just hungry.

I'm really interested in learning the stories of folks I meet and what brings them happiness. I really want to know how different people see the world and how they think we can solve the various problems we're facing.
