My name's Cassian. I'm 24 years old and I'm from London. I think London will always be my home, regardless of where I am in the future.

Writing these things is always difficult, cos in many ways I think I'm quite a contradictory person: I'm a social and warm-hearted person who likes meeting new people, but I can also be very introverted. I am irreverent and light-hearted, but equally there are things that I feel very strongly about that I can be very earnest with.

I enjoy drinking and have always enjoyed going out, though in the last couple of years I've mellowed out a bit and become somewhat domesticated: I now really enjoy cooking and spending an evening at home with friends and/or family.

I don't tend to take things, or myself, too seriously. I'm often opinionated, and love talking to (or arguing with, maybe) people with differing views so long as it's good-natured.

I'm currently on the west coast of the U.S.A. for a few months. In September I begin training to become an English teacher back home, in London.

Before I go home I want to see the west coast through the eyes of the people who actually live here. I don't think going to a city as a complete tourist ever gives as interesting a portrait of the place, so I'd love to meet people who love their city and feel strongly about it, for whatever reason.

I love music, I pretty much always have it on in the background. I love talking about it, and sharing with people- whether that be finding mutual ground or discovering something new, it's all good.

I enjoy drinking and being on the west coast is an amazing thing for a beer-lover: so many amazing, fresh, and interesting beers to try out. The UK has a blossoming beer scene but it's still miles behind the U.S. so while I'm here I'm taking the opportunity to try as many new beers as I can and check out any breweries that I can access.

I'm an avid Arsenal fan. For those who don't know what that means, basically I'm a football (soccer) nut.

I studied Literature at university. I don't read as much as I'd like any more, but I still love talking about books with people. I'm relatively widely read but my most prominent interest tends to be in 20th century American fiction.

I like TV more than movies generally: The Wire, Sopranos, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad etc. etc.

With films it's more that I never know what to watch! I like Wes Anderson a lot. Classics like The Graduate, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Godfather, Goodfellas etc. Love Some Like it Hot (and most Jack Lemmon movies). I'm less into modern blockbuster type stuff (but I really like Hunger Games...?)

Couchsurfing seems like such an amazing way of learning about new places and cultures, and sharing experiences.

I'm a pretty good cook. I'm not particularly skilled (not dexterous at all!) but I'm really interested in food. I love the communal aspect of making and sharing food with people. There's not much better in my book than sharing a good dinner, having a few drinks, and just talking about anything and everything into the night. I spent a year and a half working in a wholesale butcher's where I learnt a lot about meat. Working with produce every day made me think a lot more about what I was cooking and made me a lot more adventurous when trying new ingredients or cuts.

I like having a good time! I enjoy drinking at home or in bars and am a more than willing drinking buddy.
