About Me

Sorry, I am not able to accept guests at the moment. I am very busy working many jobs (bartending, waitressing, nannying, and set decorating) and will be out of town a few times over the next couple months. Check back later!

CURRENT MISSION

To suck the marrow out of every day and every night!

ABOUT ME

Hi there I'm Cat! First and foremost, I'm an artist - I make films, dance, play music, and make visual art. My other main interests include nature, animals, meditation, yoga, biking, and cooking.

I have travelled around the US and Western Europe a fair amount, as well as some of Latin America and the Middle East. I would really like to explore more of Central and South America and also go to Southeast Asia and Scandanavia! I lived in New York for 7 years (went to college there and stuck around for a few more years), minus a few months spent backpacking and a summer in Portland, OR. I lived in Austin for about 3 years while I was playing in a psych rock band. In July of 2018 I moved back to NYC to focus on filmmaking again, my original passion. Sometimes I like to go out and party, but I often like to just enjoy a really good meal and good conversation, especially when it's nice outside and there's good wine.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is to examine how philosophies are constructs of the human mind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A few years ago I went on a post-collegiate sojourn around the world (well, some of it anyway!) and hung out with Couch Surfers in Berlin. I've also met up with couch surfers in NYC and hosted them in Austin.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was skeptical at first, but my first Couchsurfing experiences were so warm and lovely. I love meeting new people and learning about different cultures, and Couch Surfers are some of the nicest people I've come across on this Earth.

Interests

I really like to cook, make art, watch movies, bike, dance, meditate, do yoga, hike, and just lay in the sun and enjoy a nice lazy day with my roomies and my kitties. My favorite color is crimson and my favorite foods are pizza and salad.

Music, Movies, and Books

Roxy Music, Lykke Li, Slowdive, David Bowie, Broadcast, The Smiths, Joni Mitchell, the Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, Cat Power, My Bloody Valentine, Nico, The Velvet Underground, Donovan, Grimes, Sky Ferreira, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Outkast...I like music you can dance to and music with lots of layers to get lost in.

Velvet Goldmine and Trainspotting are my two favorites!! I also like: the Dreamers, Blow Up, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Harold and Maude, Midnight in Paris, The Last Picture Show...Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, Terrance Malick, David Lynch, Michel Gondry...I love going to the movies. If a friend invites me, I'll go even if I don't know anything about the movie.

Be Here Now, Please Kill Me: The Oral History of Punk Rock, Popism: The Warhol Sixties, Walden, Just Kids, The Diary of Anne Frank, Life by Keith Richards, Herman Hesse, Carl Jung...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been really lucky to have done lots of amazing things in my life, but I think the one I'm most excited about is that my band just finished up our first tour. We hopped on the Warped Tour for a week and toured around the Southwest and it was a really amazing experience because we learned so much and met some really nice people and I got to perform every day!

Teach, Learn, Share

I've taught yoga and meditation. I also am a pretty good vegetarian cook and know a lot about wine, beer, and liquor from many years in the food service industry. I'm quite crafty (I work in the art department on film/tv/web sets and make decorations for live events) and can teach you how to paint, craft with cardboard, make films, etc. I can teach you the basics of playing piano.

Things I'd like to learn: I'd like to work on my Spanish!! I also know a little bit of French and Italian. And I'd like to surf more and become better at it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to cook for you and buy you a nice bottle of wine, some beer or other spirits! I love animals and would be happy to take your dog for a walk, etc. If you have any other ideas of how I can thank you, let me know. And of course I'd be happy to host you in Queens if you'd like to visit NYC!
