About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discover Europe! Make new friends :-)

ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Catherine, 24 years old & working in my home town as a Graphic Designer in a small studio. I'm an independent, easy-going person who enjoys to travel, meet new people and have a good laugh. I enjoy swimming, reading & live music. At home I like to catch up with friends & family and (if weather permits) get down to the beach! I'm currently on my first trip to Europe and loving it :-)

PHILOSOPHY

Live. Laugh. Love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At this stage I've only been discussing other people's CS experiences on my travels as I meet them in hostels etc. I'm keen to become a part of the CS community :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet :-) Although I've heard a lot of good experiences from people I've met on my travels.

Interests

I love to swim (in the pool during the winter, and in the ocean during the summer). Food is a bit of a hobby of mine, I love trying new cuisines but I'm (slightly ashamed to say) not very adventurous when it comes to 'exotic' dishes (like snails etc).

I'm venturing into the world of cooking - I'm no master chef, but a keen apprentice ... Mostly sweet things, on a mission to bake a decent macaron! So far it's going well :-)

I really enjoy being outside and going for walks - not serious hiking though. And although I haven't had a lot of experience I'm really keen on activities like white-water rafting - I did it for the first time in New Zealand a few years ago.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC - I recently went to the Splendour in the Grass music festival in Byron Bay, New South Wales. I had a great time, these were some of my favourite acts: Mumford and Sons (I've seen them live a few times now and am more in love with them as ever!), Bernard Fanning, Of Monsters and Men, Sarah Blasko, Matt Corby, Vance Joy, Jake Bugg & Laura Marling ... to name a few! I also appreciate a good dose of Cat Stevens, Billy Joel and David Bowie ;-)

MOVIES - I'm a big movie fan, and although it's hard to pick a favourite; here's some that I love: Two Hands, The Shawshank Redemption, Dear Frankie, Looking for Alibrandi, Notting Hill, Forrest Gump, Pride and Prejudice, Pulp Fiction & anything made by Pixar.

TV SHOWS - Firefly, Six Feet Under, Dexter, Supernatural, Mad Men & Buffy the Vampire Slayer

BOOKS - I love getting lost in a good book, here's a few of my favourites: The Harry Potter series, the Tomorrow when the War Began series by John Marsden, The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, The Magicians by Lev Grossman, His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman & To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm visiting some European cities for the first time, so constantly being amazed by the history and people. A memorable experience from Paris was at the Shakespeare & Company Bookstore, where in the cute, cluttered upstairs section I was invited to sit in on a gathering of people young and old. They shared their favourite poems, songs and stories while we were fed tea and cake by a lovely artist/writer who ran these wonderful workshops every week. I thoroughly recommend visiting this (almost 100 year old) bookstore that used be an influential meeting place for authors like Ernest Hemmingway and to this day is run by traveling writers and artists who live & work in the store.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been enjoying learning guitar (with help from YouTube!), I'm still a beginner but it's fun to share some music with people I can learn from :-)

I worked as a swimming coach from late high school and though out my uni studies, so always happy to have a swim (at the pool or beach) with anyone who's keen!

I do love a good crafty session - from making books to crocheting a blanket to sewing some bunting flags!
