ABOUT ME

I am a 21 (almost 22!) year old senior at Yale University, studing both English Literature and medicine. I'm in the middle of the painful application process to medical school. I live with my mother in Charleston, SC, where we moved after my parents divorced. My only sibling - my 25 year old sister - lives in Boston and owns a recording studio and a tattoo parlor.

PHILOSOPHY

Joy is a choice. I live my life knowing that it's short and that I want to experience as much as I can and love as many as I can before its over.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just started surfing and would love to continue to be a surfer during future travels. I am also very open to hosting surfers both in Charleston and in New Haven, CT where I attend school.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just surfed with a fantastic host in Athens. It was my first experience, and I was lucky to have such a good one. She was always helpful and made the time so much more enjoyable by introducing us to her friends and family, going so far as to throw me an early birthday party. While I went in not truly understanding what couchsurfing was about, I now have a better understanding of what it can be and would love to continue to take part.

Interests

I have too many interests, which tends to make life difficult for me. I am passionate about literature, interested in theoretical physics and astronomy, and I love science. Hence I became an english major pre-med at university. My love of watching you-tube videos of surgeries is paralleled only by my love of debating about the best novel of the twentieth century (Great Gatsby followed closely by Ulysses).

I am also a total beach bum and would probably be perfectly content living in a box on the beach as long as I could spend the day in the sun and surfing.

I love to run, and one of my current goals is to train for a triathlon. My other goal is to learn how to cook!

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of music, I listen to alternative rock, classical, rap, folk. So pretty much anything. I also love most movies, but my favorites are Amadeus, Love Actually, and Airplane. My two favorite authors are Fitgerald and Nabakov, and my two favorite poets of Wallace Stephens and Neruda.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently volunteered for the Tethys Research Institute helping to survey dolphins in the Gulf of Corinth in an effort to promote environmental conservation.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to teach anyone who visits me to surf (as in water, not on couches). I also have an inordinate number of books that I would like to share or trade. In terms of what I want to learn (other than cooking), I really just want to get to know people, their histories, and what they think about their world.
