About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To never take more than I need nor need more than I take.

ABOUT ME

We recently moved to Portland from Orlando, FL. We're in love with this city and excited to meet new people and make lifelong friends! We live in a tiny studio in SW. Sam is 26 and is studying Anthropology at PSU, I am 25 and am taking a break from school to work this semester. I will be attending PSU next year, probably as a Psych major. We both have whimsical senses of humor and love blowing bubbles and playing in the sunshine.

If you're interested in personality tests, I test as INFP on Myers-Briggs/Jung tests, a 4 on the Ennagram tests and a Considerate Artist on some other test which gives a pretty good description of my personality if you look at the results.

PHILOSOPHY

My only goal is happiness. I wish to live a simple life where all of my basic needs are taken care of, leaving me time to enjoy living.

Do what makes you happy without lessening the happiness of others.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We haven't really participated much since I joined this site, but I do hope to do more in the future. I'm sort of shy, so I'm rather wary of taking the leap towards meeting people.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite books of all time include Principia Discordia, The Illuminatus! Trilogy, and Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. I'm a huge fan of Murakami's and I love most magical realism (if you have any recommendations, please share them). I also love Catch-22, Fear in Loathing in Las Vegas, Infinite Jest, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and His Dark Materials Trilogy.

My favorite movie currently is probably Southland Tales. But, my love of magical realism does translate to movies as well, and some of my favorite examples include Price of Milk, Science of Sleep, Amelie, and Lawn Dogs. Some of my other favorite films are The Holy Mountain, Brazil, Palindromes, Kill Bill, I Heart Huckabees and City of God. I also have a soft spot for B Movies like Satan's Cheerleaders, Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, and of course the Evil Dead trilogy and Romero's zombie films.

Music: I like lots of music. You can check out my last.fm account at last.fm/user/cavale. Genrewise, there's experimental electronica, hardcore electronica, electroclash, indie rock, gypsy music, and freak folk. Here's a small sampling of some of my favorite artists: Crystal Castles, Gangpol & Mit, Satanicpornocultshop, Otto Von Schirach, Devendra Banhart, CocoRosie, Architecture in Helsinki, Hot Chip, Animal Collective, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pixies, Vitalic, Dan Deacon. I also discovered this lovely French label called Ego Twister Records. Go to their website, they have three albums for download, free!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to crochet and would love to teach or learn more! I'd love a crochet buddy! I'm also trying to teach myself how to knit.

I know a little bit about the basics of photography. I've mastered a few hooping tricks, and I'd be happy to teach or learn. I've also got a few poi tricks in my repertoire, and I would love to learn some more. I'm generally full of random facts about the world, as I spend a lot of time reading.

Sam is extremely knowledgeable about current psytrance releases, and he is a certified audio engineer, so if you need help learning how to mix or record, or master some music program, he may be able to help you.

We would love to learn more about roughing it. Building a campsite from the ground up with sticks and twine and tarps. We both really want to build things but aren't sure how to begin.
