About Me

CURRENT MISSION

From July 12th 2012 for around a month I will be cycling from Bristol to Edinburgh with a trailer containing my guitar and amp etc. and aim to busk or gig in every town I stop in. I am doing this to raise money for a tree planting project in Malawi.

ABOUT ME

I am a creative person, who is friendly, sociable and outgoing. I love travelling and the opportunities it opens up to meet new people and learn from them about this crazy world we live in. I'm a gemini and if you believe in that kind of thing, I do fit the bill, I'm sociable and creative and but sometimes I like to be quiet and have time to reflect this is probably why I often choose to travel alone but I love interraction with the new people that I meet on my journies. I'm independent, self sufficient and above all a great houseguest!

PHILOSOPHY

I truely believe life should be an adventure and if you have opportunities in life you should take them!! My spiritual philosophy is that we should all treat each other and this planet with ultimate respect, love and kindness and that the only way to change the world is to start within yourself if you don't change how can you expect anybody else to, but if we all did, imagine what a different world we'd have! I am non religious but am interested in yoga and meditation though I don't really do enough of the latter! The world is an endlessly fascinating place and I want to explore it as much as possible!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I am lodging with friends and about to embark on several extended adventures. Therefore I am not in a position to offer a couch to others. However, I hope that some day in the future when I'm in a more settled position I'll be able to return the favour.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far, but I've had very positive reports from friends who have used it all around the world.

Interests

I am a singer songwriter and lover of travelling. In fact many of my songs are about travelling or wishing I was doing so! Apart from writing songs, playing and performing music. I love chatting to new people and learning about the world and it's inhabitants. Reading stories, writing my new travel blog, taking photos, drawing, painitng, watching good films and enjoying fine wine and food with friends. I also enjoy a good festival!

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: I like beautiful family stories like Monsoon Wedding, and indie films where nothing much happens but I also like a good gangster film; Goodfellas, City of God, just saw Carlito's Way for the first time the other night (how did I miss that one!), Pedro Almodavar films especially 'Volver', Wim Wenders 'Buena Vista Social Club'.. all sorts! Books: Anything set in India..a suitable boy, god of small things, The Famished Road *not set in India! Music: blimey where to start, jazz, folk, latin, FLAMENCO, gypsy jazz..anything gypsy related. indie, punk, country, country rock, americana, reggae, hip hop, dub, electronica..
I should have made it all easier and just said I have broad tastes!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am about to do something amazing..all going well! I will be cycling from Bristol to Edinburgh with a trailer containing my guitar and amp etc. and aim to busk or gig in every town I stop in. I am doing this to raise money for a tree planting project in Malawi for a charity called TEMWA. I am also doing it to prove to myself that I can tour my music in a carbon neutral and freegan fashion! Other amazing things..let me think. One of the most amazing experiences I've had is doing the Vipassana 10 day silent meditation retreat. I've done it twice and it is amazing how you feel by the end of it, sadly it doesn't fully last if you don't keep up the meditation every day which I never do, but it does give you a glimpse of an attainable state of mind.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a trained and experienced English teacher, can also teach singing, songwriting, painting and a little bit of basic yoga and meditation perhaps.
