ABOUT ME

I've been in Zurich for only a few weeks now and starting to get a feel for the city. I'm here doing research, but also to finally get a chance to spend some proper time abroad. So many places to explore, so much food to try, so much wine to drink!

PHILOSOPHY

Novel yet bad has its merits.

兴趣

I like food, pretty much of any sort. Audaciousness is a plus. I'm always in search of interesting wines, liquors, and beer. I'm pretty good at mixing cocktails, though unfortunately that's a hobby I can't much explore until I meet a few more people here. Any good recommendations for Swiss beers would be very appreciated.

Art is always good, though design is frequently better.

Asking questions. Not going to learn much without doing that.

音乐、电影和书籍

Movies: Anything by P.T. Anderson, the Coens, or Pixar. A lot of Goddard, Henecke, Wong Kar-Wai, Michael Mann, and Bunuel. That said, the best movie I've seen in ages is Un Prophète. I adore later Tarentino and will defend at length my love of A.I, especially after a couple of pints. Of course, I'm not a total pretentious jerk, and god knows I love the Iron Mans and Dark Knights of the world.

Music: As much as I hate to admit it, I'm your standard Pitchfork-reading relucant hipster type when it comes to my music. Current loves include Janelle Monae, Hot Chip, The Books, Scissor Sisters, Wolf Parade, Nat Baldwin, Four Tet, Fuck Buttons, etc.

Books: I'm only finally getting back into the reading thing again after basically taking grad school off. Currently enjoying Postwar, a fantastic book about the history of Europe after the last shot of WWII. Also reading, but rather disliking, the whole Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series of books. Oh yes, but I do love me some graphic novels: Sandman, of course, Superspy, From Hell.

I've a soft spot for stories about storytelling.

Played croquet on a frozen lake in Wisconsin in 4 F weather. We bored holes into the ice and packed them with snow so we could put down wickets.

I can go on at length about liquor and cocktails, as well as most topics in physics and a few in evolution. You might guess which of these is more fun at cocktail parties.
