ABOUT ME
Hi future friends! My name is Casey.
After I graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2012 with a degree in Comparative Religions (concentrated in Buddhism) and Economics, I immediately moved to the woods of northern Minnesota to lead kayak tours and hikes. I had a great time and eventually moved to Colorado! I spent the summer living in a tent and working at a whitewater rafting company on the Arkansas River. The best part about living in a tent was seeing the Colorado sunset every single day. So much beautiful nature and hiking; I was in heaven.
Dog walking was my next job and boy was it GREAT! I got to play with and walk so many cool dogs every day. Hard to be mad when you get to spend all day exercising and hanging out with man's best friend!
Four summers ago I took a backpacking trip around western and eastern Europe full of Couchsurfing and Help Exchanges. I landed in Portugal on May 2, 2014 and saw parts of 16 different countries in the five months I was on the road. Not only did I see so many beautiful places interesting cities, but I had the pleasure of meeting and staying with fantastic hosts through both websites. The hospitality that was extended to me was truly second to none, and I will never forget it. What an experience it was.
The following summer I went on a bikepacking trip from Seattle, WA to Minneapolis, MN. It was definitely one of the hardest things I have ever done, but seeing the landscape by bicycle is pretty unforgettable. There is definitely something to be said about slow travel.
My partner, Jake, and I got back from a six month trip in Central and South America last May. We spent six weeks in Costa Rica, 10 days in the Dominican Republic, and about two weeks in Colombia before buying a van in Chile and driving around Patagonia for three months.
Reading, writing, and learning about nature are a few of my interests. Animals can always put a smile on my face.
As with most users on this site, I thrive on meeting people and learning about what makes them tick as well as the life they currently lead.
PHILOSOPHY
The energy you put out into the world is reflected in what it gives back to you! I try to live one day at a time while still thinking about the big picture.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have done a little couch surfing in London, Morocco, Austria, and some remote areas of the US. I have hosted through a cycling website called Warm Showers. I would love to host more when Jake and I are settled into our own place in Montana.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Sometimes it's the simple nights: a walk around Salzburg with your host and a beer, chatting about the city and learning about everyday life in another part of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't watch too many movies; most of my favorites are still the ones from my childhood, like Mrs. Doubtfire, Matilda, and Beetlejuice! As for books, I absolutely love the journey of Elizabeth Gilbert in "Eat, Pray, Love".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2011 I completed a ten-day tour of the Italian boot, starting and ending in Pisa with two guys I met at breakfast at a convent. We went down the boot and then back up the boot in a whirl-wind experience that I will never, ever forget. I have also jumped off some cliffs in Hawaii - absolutely unforgettable!
Paragliding in Medellin was also quite an experience...I am still having flashbacks of the motion sickness and the views!
Teach, Learn, Share
I love good beer and have done a little homebrewing. I can share knowledge about this! I can also share knowledge about Buddhism and love to discuss bigger philosophies of life.
Jake is an excellent cook and enjoys using local ingredients to whip up new meals.
