ABOUT ME

PLEASE READ: I’ve been off the website for ages, due to a variety of life circumstances, and I’m sorry for any messages I missed. I’m hoping to slowly get back into things, but I’m not going to have a place of my own to offer for a while, unfortunately, so I’ll be on to surf here are there and otherwise just to meet up and connect with likeminded people.

I'm a 28-year-old American girl currently working as a freelance cellist in Las Vegas, NV. I'm an extrovert, very interested in learning basically anything, musician, sometime performance artist, explorer, and I love to laugh. I'm generally up for almost any kind of adventure, anything in the arts, anything involving good food, etc. I eventually intend to be a cello-playing rock star. I also intend to start and then become champion of the Leisure Olympics. Sports include (but are not limited to) lounging, snuggling, splaying and sprawling, reclining, and napping.

PHILOSOPHY

You're not hardcore unless you live hardcore. I am trying to pursue a life of semi-reckless ethical hedonism. I also am a firm believer in the golden rule, not for religious reasons, but simply because it makes sense. Also, making people happy makes me feel really good.

I've hosted a few people, and I also regularly meet up with people just to see the city or chat.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had an amazing time couchsurfing. My hosts have been numerous and spread out over three continents, and they were all beyond delightful. I am so happy to have had the chance to meet and spend time with them and so grateful for all they did for me. I'm truly the luckiest traveler ever! I keep in touch with some of them and would welcome interaction with any of them, any time. I also have met a lot of CS people just to hang out, and they were all fantastic too. I am so glad to be a couchsurfer, and can't wait to host and be hosted in the future!

兴趣

I sort of covered this already, but I suppose I'll give more specifics. I play the cello, am classically trained but trying to explore different genres as much as possible. I love good food, especially meat and cheese, and also desserts involving berries and cream. I have loved studying French, Middle English, and Old English, although I am terrible at all of them (and don't even get me started on my sorry attempts to learn Greek and Spanish). I have an extreme soft spot for things that look like they love eachother, even if it's just two artfully placed inanimate objects. I am addicted to well-written prose, especially if it has a bit of dry wit. I like theatre, and I enjoy dancing even though I can't do it with any degree of proficiency.

I like a wide variety of music. Lots of classical, especially from the romantic period onwards, but some earlier stuff as well. Within the realm of, er, other stuff, I tend to gravitate towards things with discernable melodic qualities and upbeat, happy sounds. Some artists I am currently enjoying are Ben Folds, The Beatles, The Kronos Quartet, Paul Simon, OK Go, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Fratellis, Adele, Regina Spektor, The Bird and the Bee, and the Strokes. I also like to listen to various sorts of world music, klezmer, flamenco, Irish and American fiddling, gypsy, all sorts, really.

My favorite author is Bill Bryson. I also enjoy Nabokov, Douglas Adams, Chaucer, and... Bleh, I can't think. I love to read.

Favorite movies: I Heart Huckabees, Little Miss Sunshine, Amelie, The Muppet Movie, School of Rock, Pirates of the Caribbean, generally things that will make me laugh. No violence.

Performing in front of huge crowds is always thrilling. Also, fruity drinks in Puerto Rico are humbling in their deliciousness. Oh, and for a while I was a Flying Sea Cellist.

I'm interested in learning how to cook new things, and could definitely teach a few in return; sous vide cooking is my current obsession. I'm always up for musical exchange and/or collaboration. I can teach you the opening to the Canterbury Tales in Middle English. I'm interested in learning basically anything, really. I would love to pick up more Greek or reinvigorate my French.
