About Me

Carpe diem.
Hi, I'm Bob. I love life, and I love traveling because I love people.
Born in Germany and used to spring, summer, fall, and winter, I chose to reduce my annual number of seasons by 50% and move to Canada (winter and summer). In September 2010, I reduced the number of seasons by another 50%, when I moved to California (summer only).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of sharing what you have and showing the nice things around you.
I have hosted a bit and surfed a lot, on three continents so far. I haven't made a single bad experience with Couchsurfing. Rather, it added an entirely new dimension to my travels.

Interests

I'm interested in birds, beetles, people, good music, clouds, trees, books, air, tennis, bicycling, homebrewing, typesetting, and some other things.
I love stone walls that crumble, street signs that are involuntarily absurd, and trying the fruit of fruit trees that I serendipitously find on the road.

Music, Movies, and Books

Joe Zawinul, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, David Fiuczynski

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw two entire rainbows at the same time.
I saw a perigee-syzygy, a.k.a. supermoon, in a clear, snowy winter night in the mountains of British Columbia.
I had ice-cold beer in a steaming hot shower.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to brew your own beer. I would also like to acquire more advanced brewing knowledge myself.
I can teach you the languages I speak (and pretend to teach you any other language). I would like to learn Italian and a Slavic language (so I can swim across the Adriatic Sea).
