One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Backpacking in Rome during a World Cup and Italy won a match....Talk about celebration and love for football... the whole city was alive with people. They celebrated for many hours into the night...the whole city..."Italian style". Beautiful people, beautiful culture..

Traveling to Bali in 2011....I was walking in the sand, along the shore with my buddies...for a long time...7-8km...I started to get tired, I decided to go home. When I walked inland to look for a taxi...I could not find any...I saw some Indonesian locals working and preparing for something...I first asked them if there were taxi's available. They said almost no taxis available that day because of religious holiday....I said ok...then I asked about the holiday they said it was quite special, Hari Umanis Galungan. We had a talk about the festival and where I was from and then the woman spoke to her husband a moment... she returned and told me for small fee her husband would 'work on this holiday' and drive me on his scooter all the way home. I was very grateful and said thanks...when we were riding, we realised there was only one helmut. So, he took me on a 15 minute ride all the way to his house to get a helmut. I was definitely some place where tourists never get a chance to see... as I waited for him, I met his neighbor and local kids...we soon started riding again...It was a beautiful ride through the countryside with a nice friendly guy...definitely the best part of my time in Bali...meeting the locals. :-) A fantastic experience.
