Hi, I’m Chiho – or charico :)

I’m a traveler of both the outer world and my inner one.
I was born and raised in Japan, and spent part of my childhood in Australia. Since then, I’ve loved exploring new cultures, languages, ideas—and myself.


I’m a language teacher, mountain hiker, and lover of stories and songs. I believe in real connection, slow moments, and the beauty of being fully human.

Nature plays a big role in my life. I love hiking across the seasons, sleeping under the stars, and finding my own rhythm in quiet woods and wide-open landscapes. When I get a bit dreamy or lost in thought, being outside helps me feel grounded.


These days, I’m really interested in things around the inner world—like exploring the unconscious mind, contemplative practices, psychedelic therapy, and precision medicine. I enjoy deep conversations about those things… but also about art, animals, and good food :)

I hope our time together will be a positive and meaningful experience for both of us — a chance to share good moments, simple joys, and maybe a little inspiration.

I’m looking forward to meeting someone open-hearted and kind, and just enjoying whatever unfolds naturally!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This will be my first time using Couchsurfing!

I joined just before the pandemic and have been looking forward to trying it ever since.


To me, travel isn’t just about places — it’s about the people you meet along the way. I’d love to connect with others who are exploring, creating, healing, or simply living with presence.


I imagine Couchsurfing as a beautiful way to share stories, silence, laughter, and maybe even a glimpse of each other’s inner worlds.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m drawn to stories that touch the human spirit, transformation, and the mysteries of life.
One of my favorite books is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.


I also love Studio Ghibli films — they remind me of the wonder and joy I felt as a child.

As for music, I really enjoy all kinds of sounds. Wherever there’s music, I believe there’s a spark of happiness!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking the Camino de Santiago was a big turning point for me — it helped me discover who I really am.

Since then, hiking in Japan through all seasons has deepened that connection with myself and nature.

These journeys remind me what it means to be truly present and alive every day.
