About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have interesting and worthwhile experiences

ABOUT ME

I am always well-intentioned and understanding towards other people, without prejudices or intolerance, especially as to race, gender or religion. I am a widower and care for my family, new partner and my sons. Material comforts are not that important to me.

PHILOSOPHY

Realist and pragmatist, but with a spiritual background.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been to Denmark with my partner and I am willing to host myself now and then. Please let me know well in advance, as I may read your request too late for your purposes otherwise (I do not check CS every day.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Some, in Denmark.

Interests

My interests are culture and history in general, languages and literature, people and society. I do chores in and around the house, cook for my youngest son or my partner while listening to Radio 4 (BBC), and I am learning how to draw.

Music, Movies, and Books

'The classics' of English literature and books like 'Wolf Hall' by H. Mantell + modern 'gripping' action books like Ian Rankin, ... Short stories especially, also American: I like the straightforward style of John Steinbeck and other Americans like Hemingway, Jack London (The Call of the Wild). Recently: The Deer Hunter; Alice in Wonderland. Occasionally a book in another European language (Simenon; De Saint-Exupéry; De Maupassant; Böll; Fallada). Films: Danish films; well-made films with an artistic tendency.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1.The spiritual experience of standing beneath the waterfalls of Cirque de Gavarnie in my teens, perceiving the basic elements and feeling myself very much alive.

2.Getting the 'feel' of places - also cities like London or Madrid - wonderfully vibrant city! Eating 'churros'there, witnessing 'semana santa'in Castilla y Leon...

Teach, Learn, Share

'Teaching' literally is 'not applicable' in my spare time, but I do hope I get the opportunity to chat some in Dutch / English / French / Spanish (in that order) or even attempt some German, which I normally never use but do understand well. I'd like to practice and learn a few Danish phrases as a beginner.

Countries I’ve Visited

Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
