ABOUT ME

I like good food and working outside (though I'm not the most creative cook), which is why I went to work on a farm after college instead of going after some office job (not that there's anything wrong with them); I love music, I play drums, a bit of bass and guitar; I'm trying to learn Spanish. I guess there's always more, but why spoil meeting people?

PHILOSOPHY

As a favorite anthropology professor (so I guess it's not all that personal, but what is?) of mine says, "I really think that listening to others and getting to know their experiences and contexts is one of the most important things we can do."

Only a week stay in New Orleans a few years ago.

Movement, rhythm, music; light, soil, food; sounds, language, reading. I'm trying to learn Spanish. I studied Anthropology at UNC Asheville; My last five summers or so were spent on small, locally based farms. Went to Cuba for a Permaculture trip.

Just read All the Pretty Horses. Beautiful. The Good Life, Helen and Scott Nearing. Anything by Wendell Berry. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Neil Postman, Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Emily Dickinson (about the only poet I can sort of "get"). Lots.

Music: Too much to list here! I play a few instruments and would love to make some sounds with whoever comes through.

Movies: I'm getting a little behind on movies to be honest. There's too many other things to do these days, though I do love movies.

These kinds of things are difficult to write about, kind of "had-to-be-there" types of moments. Reading Emily Dickinson is one things that continues to leave me awestruck. One time I got to sit in with a band to play one of the harmony parts to "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" on guitar (had to be there). I recently was walking through one of our sheep fields and heard the ground making a sound I've only heard one other time in my life (had to be there; the other time this happened I was in Maryland, and thought it was distinct to something in the soil up there). Et cetera.
