About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live fast, live dangerous

ABOUT ME

People call me chertoe (Cherie Toh)
I would say that I am a rather slow to warm up girl, but I am never afraid to interact. In fact, I love to meet new people, exchange conversations, do spontaneous things, and EAT different yummy cuisines.
You can conclude that I am rather shy, but rather fun(:

PHILOSOPHY

Sociology made me rather Marxist.
I do conceive a socialist world to be much more greater for the human kind. But, contradictorily, I indulge in so many things that supports modern capitalism.
Most simple of all, I believe in doing whatever that makes me a happy (hard to define though) person.

I view traveling as a possible escape, possible enlightenment and possible door to see a better world.

A slight overthinker - we can talk about world-views all day all night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would love to host, but there are some concerns);
Im living with my parents, and we do have an extra room. However, I am still trying to get through to them about this entire couchsurfing idea (considering our Asian cultural context). So peeps, hang in there! I'll be able to host one day!

I would also like to participate by surfing! I personally believe meeting locals is the best way to know about a culture. As a sociologist-to-be (big word, haha), I am really curious about the functions and exchanges across cultures, even more so from a first person point-of-view. So, I would really love to!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in NYC and Montreal during summer 2014.

Met with some great hosts! Am extremely grateful for the trust factor and generosity that people in this community have for each other!

On the side note, I would say that I am definitely not positive towards the "expected forms of payments" that is intrinsic to some hosts out there. Also, respect one another, this is a community to share about travels and culture, not just about free accommodation.

Interests

Adrenaline-pumping activities: Anything spontaneous, exciting, challenging, i am up for it!

Walking: streets after streets, parks after parks, never sick of it!

Food: I am such a glutton, and I have a stomach for all sorts of food, not just an extra dessert stomach. There's always space for good stuff hehe

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies that are surreal to my own life, and i prefer fantasy the least.

Music, definitely upbeat!

I love reading Paulo Ceolho. Remember to extract the great quotes!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping on the beach without a tent (freezing cold), and waiting for a sunrise, that never came because it started raining.
Still, it was one of the most amazing thing because how it felt stays.

Teach, Learn, Share

Maybe i can teach you some Singlish (singapore english) and ways to relax in a stress-filled fast-paced city life. Oh, and i can share my crazy best friend with you.

I am not well traveled, so I will be easily impressed ahaha. I am just open to learning anything (:
