O mnie

CURRENT MISSION

Understand NY! Figure out what boroughs or what and why what they say about them is(n't) true!

ABOUT ME

Hmm, I'm a pretty quirky dude I suppose. Grew up in Tacoma WA, just a touch south of Seattle. Did a lot of traveling with my parents as a kid, then went off on summer trips by myself and have taken classes abroad.

Just graduated last summer from U of Chicago with a degree in econ, in the best possible time to graduate of course, and currently consulting for a company down near Charlotte NC.

PHILOSOPHY

I thrive on learning. Went to a school that is basically known for its relentless hunger for knowledge (our libraries were packed...at all the times).

I plan to do as much traveling as possible. My end goal is to have a bunch of other traveling friends where we're meeting up where I'm living, where they're living, and then in new places for both of us.

Travel really is a substantial facet of my personal philosophy, but beyond that I guess I am an odd hodgepodge of a very Socratic father and Presbyterian mother.

Dlaczego jestem na Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently living in Lenoir, the former furniture capital of the world...which really is a community annihilated by outsourcing. If anyone would wanna come out to crash I'd assist...just there really isn't any reason to come out this way.

Eventually I plan to move back to large city and get far more involved in CS. Living in an area for awhile can make me feel stagnant so having travelers come in would keep me on my toes on what the happenings are, which would be win-win for everyone involved!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Planning my first trip with CouchSurfing to New York and super duper anxious as I try to contact people and figure out how the system works.

I'm a bit timid when it comes to new systems, but going to give it a go! Worst case I can meet some snazzy people for coffee and chill at a hostel. Best case can end up being the same situation, just with cooler people!

Also just now adding info to my profile, so if I contact you about a couch and I haven't added it just ask!

Zainteresowania

Exploring! Reading (primarily non-fiction), snowboarding, rappelling, movies, making intricate things with my hands.

I really like puzzles in all their forms. From timing myself putting together a jigsaw to abstract word challenges.

Muzyka, filmy i książki

I visited NY mid March and saw Secret of Kells down in the East Village and it was pretty spiffy, plus the theatre was awesome. Also watch a lot of good and bad Japanese martial arts and/or post-apocalyptic flicks like Versus and Death Trance.

I shamefully admit a weakness to anything Ryan Reynolds is in, regardless of plot (or absence of). Parker Posey is a running second where I've been seeking out everything she's been in.

I just started listening to Frightened Rabbit, a Scottish band similar to Death Cab for Cutie. Heard about them while listening to NPR. Also been listening to a lot of Magnetic Fields, Stars, Metric, OK Go while often leaving eurodance or NPR in the background while doing work.

I'm a big fan of all of Chuck Palahniuk's books, having read all but Fight Club and Snuff so far. Have read a lot of books on economics and China.

Just started reading Anne Caron's Autobiography of Red, James Joyce's Dubliners, and Philip Roth's The Human Stain. Last book I finished was Anthem by Ayn Rand.

Jedna niesamowita rzecz, którą zrobiłem(-am)

Sky dived, which was tons of fun. Have gotten to see and do a lot of things, but free falling was a very unique experience!
Rappelled off one of the world's largest straight waterfalls in Pucon Chile.
Snowboarded down a near vertical double black diamond named Tall Paul in Idaho, also a lot of Silver Mt.'s back country.
Slid down the giant slide at the Great Wall of China.
Driven cross country on four transcontinental road trips.

I've lived in South America, Europe, and Asia and done a bunch of traveling with plenty of fun stories. So can also help plan out trips and give advice from where I've been, or ask friends and get back to you!

I was also in a circus in Chicago so I can teach you how to (contact) juggle, spin poi/fire, do some gymnastics stuff.

Hmm, to be super pragmatic I have a degree in econ from a top notch school and have a decent amount of tech and computer knowledge, so if you're looking for applicable academics I'll gladly let you pick my brain.
