Overview
About Me
Hey there, I’m Shào! Im currently high pace running in China's Retail Marketing, a world away from my previous life in Cambodian aviation industry.
My life’s curriculum started small, raised between China and Myanmar, which means I see cultural lines less as borders and more as guidelines. That’s why I went solo to 20 countries and regions—I crave those differing viewpoints.
Since joining Couchsurfing in 2017, my travel philosophy has evolved. Im not a fan for traditional tourism. It feels sterile, suspended above the local life, and totally lacks the deep conversation that I genuinely crave. To me, that’s just collecting stamps or useless, cliché souvenirs..
Couchsurfing isn't just about a free bed; it’s my shortcut to truly living another person's life for a few days. I see it as the most efficient and meaningful way for a regular person to genuinely experience another life. If you're ready to share your world and inspire me from another destination, let’s connect!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The chance to immerse myself in a local home, within a different culture, feels like a magical, temporary cultural off-line from my routine work life.
Could you imagine asking a stranger if you could stay at their place without Couchsurfing? The moment I discovered this platform, I became a huge fan.
This new perspective on travel is truly unique for exploring the world. I want to meet more people from diverse fields, moving beyond my current social circle and information bubble.
Interests
I enjoy a mix of activities: travel, photography, easy outdoor hikes, podcasts, and reading. Starting in '24, I set aside time weekly for simple free writing in Chinese. I'm a fan of coffee, specifically light roasts, and a good drink—often whiskey, gin, or wine—with a preference for bar hopping. My palate leans toward sour and salty flavors. Music, Movies, and Books
Here's a glimpse into what occupies my mind (and my Spotify playlists):
Music: I enjoy diverse genres—Classical, Jazz, Electronic, and Rock.
Film: My favorite film is Lee Chang-dong's Burning.
Books: I enjoy Albert Camus' The Stranger and Han Kang's The Vegetarian. Lately, I've also been reading works by Sally Rooney and Kim Ae-ran.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
After graduation, I joined an airline and lived alone in Cambodia. I spent three wonderful years there, immersed in the vibrant Khmer culture and forming close bonds with the kindest, most welcoming locals.
During my university years, I embarked on a month-long solo road trip from Kochi in southern India all the way to Kolkata in the north—yes, entirely through couch surfing.
In Varanasi, I underwent a profound baptism of life and death.
To this day, that chaotic yet serene journey remains a quiet wellspring of inspiration deep within my soul.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm seeking language exchange, life stories, and deep conversation. I really want to hear about your personal journey and, even better, your family's traditional recipes. Like in the cultures I grew up in, I am always happy to share my food, lol.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I usually like to prepare some interesting surprise shares for you. Beyond that, I can completely open up for a deep, zero-pressure mental conversation with you. I may not be a great chef, but I'll definitely share snacks and food with u, haha.
