About Me

CURRENT MISSION

No agenda. Just trying to see what the world has to show me.

ABOUT ME

I'm a very easy-going, low-maintenance, laid back person. At times I can be very outgoing, and at others I can be more reserved (still in a friendly way ;P). I have a good sense of humor (if you ask me!) and will certainly be there to bounce a few harmless jokes back and forth. When it comes down to it, I genuinely care for people and love developing new relationships. I have a positive outlook on life and am always changing as an individual; always looking for a new or better way. "To change is difficult. Not to change is fatal."

PHILOSOPHY

Helping others. Living consciously. Taking nothing personally. Fighting for freedoms and against injustices. Being true to myself. Loving those most who seem to deserve it least. Loving the world. Tolerance. Humor. Finding meaning in life; Being free from the hamster wheel of non-introspection and stuckness.

These are all things I believe in and incorporate/am trying to incorporate in my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm just looking to surf. I need to see the world! However, when my living arrangements change, I will be more than happy to host.

Interests

I grew up living an extremely active, athletic life. I've played many sports, and went on to play soccer in college (University), and thought about going further. I still haven't really faced any athletic activity that I haven't liked. Though I've only been to a few classes, I really enjoy Yoga and believe it's a great way to center one's self.

I absolutely love music. Live music is one of my favorite ways to spend time. In the past couple years I've started to dabble in playing the guitar and ukulele, both of which I obsess over from time to time. I'm no Hendrix, but I love to play what I can manage.

Health is very important to me. I eat as well as possible and believe in the powers of organic vegetables and fruits. I am a recent vegetarian and vegan, and don't envision going back to eating meat. However, to each his own! Every person has their own reason for doing what they do, and I do not judge. I am also certainly not a saint, and sometimes (often) fall into ruts where I don't take care of myself as well as I'd like to. That's life though :)

I find it very rewarding to work with children, as I have over the past couple years in various positions. Something about being in their presence just makes me light up. I guess it's something that's tough to explain (but maybe easy to understand to someone who is similarly affected).

I like to converse. Not just talk; not just listen. Converse back and forth. It's very rare to get true, meaningful conversations where both parties are actually interested in what the other has to offer rather than just waiting for their turn to talk. I like to talk about deep, possibly/probably unsolvable or unidentifiable topics, and hear other people's own thoughts concerning them. Life is full of interesting things to think, and therefore share, about :)

I like to read! I love animals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Depending on my mood, I'm mainly either into Comedies or Drama-- but a drama that makes you think. Really, though, anything entertaining will fly. I'm drawing a blank on specifics but Big Fish is an all-time favorite.

Music: Rock, classic rock, soft rock, folk, indie, alternative, 90's pop rock (yes. so good), techno-ish stuff or sometimes pretty heavy metal when I'm exercising. I like a lot of different stuff. I don't know much classical music, but I am drawn to it. I cannot get enough of Pachelbel's Canon in D Major (that's really the only one I know by name, but for good reason.)

Some of my favorite groups/artists (in a very random order): America, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Iron and Wine, Bon Iver, xx, Smashing Pumpkins, Simon and Garfunkle, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Three Doors Down, Something Corporate, Enya (yup.), Rolling Stones, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alabama, Mumford and Sons, John Denver, James Taylor, Goo Goo Dolls, the Beatles, Dashboard Confessional, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Seger, Bob Dylan, others that I'm forgetting.

Books: I love fantasy novels, interesting non-fictions, anything really that has a good message. Some of my favorites are Brave New World, Island, Count of Monte Cristo, the Giver series, Harry Potter series, Hunger Games series, the Alchemist, Siddhartha, the Chronicles of Narnia series.

Teach, Learn, Share

My interest and therefore what I've learned a thing or two about in life so far have been athletics (soccer specifically but not inclusively), weight-training/ exercise in general, healthy eating/ living, Spanish language (not completely fluent but for any non-Spanish speaker, plenty enough). I'd love to learn anything somebody thinks has value and is willing to share. I especially am interested in other languages, meditation techniques/yoga/martial arts/movement techniques, sustainable living, etc. :)
