About Me

Oi oi, welcome to my profile, let's dive right in. I'm an adventurer, a communicator, and a strong system thinker. Presently I'm trying my damnedest to become an informed, responsible adult, although reports of my success are varied. I'm really excited to start using couchsurfing more seriously, as I'm of a mind that everyone you meet has something to teach you, in one way or another. Because I prefer to be behind the camera, in my photos section you'll find very few photos with me actually in them. Instead I've posted a few of my favorite photos I've taken.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is an amazing way to meet wonderful, interesting new people, and to get a real genuine feel for new cities you visit while travelling. You'll notice that so far my references section is pretty sparse; I figure everyone has got to start somewhere with these sorts of things. Unfortunately right now I'm not in a position to host others, so when I'm invited into someone's home, I try to brighten my hosts' environment with laughter and enthusiasm.

Interests

My hobbies include reading, photography, juggling, fitness, sports and outdoors, listening to TED talks, and taking free courses on YouTube.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a bit of a music nerd; I love discovering new music and sharing it with others. I've recently gotten into a couple new genres, electro-swing and tropical-house, which I'm really digging. My tastes in music are pretty eclectic. My top two favorite childhood movies are A Knight's Tale (2001) and The Princess Bride (1987) which I maintain are among the best films in existence. A few favorites of last year (2014) include The Theory of Everything, Nightcrawler, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. A few authors who have influenced my thinking include Chris Guillebeau, Tim Ferriss and John Maxwell. Terry Pratchett and Orson Scott Card are a couple of my favorite authors of fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In February of 2014 I was sick unto death of the job I was working, so I packed up and went on a one month volunteer trip to Bali, Indonesia, all by my lonesome. This was a little scary, as it was the first time I had ever been out of Canada, let alone halfway across the globe. Needless to say, as a clueless 18 year old, this was quite a transformative experience, and I've been hooked on travel, adventure, and meeting new people ever since.

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's tackle these in order of difficulty. I try to be very open and genuine when I meet new people, so as a rule I'm open to share pretty much anything about myself; nothing is off limits. The list of things I want to learn never seems to get any shorter. Present pursuits in learning include ancient world history, guitar, the history of Canadian politics, obscure craft beers, rock climbing, motorcycling...I could go on and on. As for teaching, no official qualifications spring to mind, although if we sit down for a long conversation over a couple of pints, I'm sure you could wring something interesting out of me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, laughter, food and drink. Adventures, best of all.
