ABOUT ME

I am a 23 year old student living in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, I moved to Ithaca, New York when I was very young. I've been fortunate enough to do a lot of traveling in my lifetime and I hope to keep it up. Only recently have I begun to experience the world of backpacking and cheap travel. It's become clear to me that couch surfing is not just a way to save money, but also to truly experience a new place - to meet new people and see so much more than tourist traps and cheap hotel artwork.

I love to read and talk about politics and history, especially about the places I visit. Something of a music geek, I am equally happy to listen to and talk about music for hours. If you have a spare guitar laying around, I'd even be happy to jam.

I'm also a big coffee geek. I can tell you more than you'll ever want to know about coffee and coffee culture, and I can also make a pretty good cup as well!

Music:
In no particular order... Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Gang of Four, Devo, St. Vincent, Real Estate, Grizzly Bear, the National, the Beatles, Love, Sonic Youth etc. etc.

Big fan of Post-punk and New Wave, indie rock, 60s/70s psychedelic garage and blues, punk. I always appreciate a solid pop song, but also love weird stuff too. Really, I'm a bit of a music nerd, so I try to give most things a chance.

Books:
American modernism is probably my favorite era: Hemingway and Faulkner are my two top authors. As far as contemporary authors go, Jonathan Franzen, David Foster Wallace and Jeffrey Eugenides are just a few of my favorites.

Backpacking from Istanbul to Berlin was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The places I've seen, the people I've met all make we want to do it again!
