About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Leave "home" and make new homes

ABOUT ME

My name is Christian. I was born in Canada and now live the United States.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a student for life. I want to learn as much as I can and teach as much as I can.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Years ago I went on a month-long trip around Europe, wherever the wind took me. Mostly alone but with familiar faces along the way.
I couchsurfed all over Belgium and in Paris.
Then I gave it a shot in my own country, and it worked out well.
Now I've got my own apartment and host!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing through Belgium was fantastic. It was my first time and everyone I met was so extremely nice. They all took me into their homes and treated me like family. That left a lasting impression on me.
I've found couchsurfing harder in the U.S. with much lower response rate =(

Interests

Obsessive music listener - Jazz listener, hip hop appreciator, alternative/indie rock lover, electronic music dancer.
On a constant journey to learn about new music.

I've been playing guitar since 13.

I love my coffee and wine.

I'm handy with computers but need a break from them!

Enjoy long-winded conversations

Music, Movies & Books

Music - see Interests. Lately, i've been infatuated with 60's/70's funk+soul. As a guitar player, greatest love goes out to Zeppelin, Hendrix and an assortment of the Jazz greats. Love new bands too.. Tame Impala, Born Ruffians, Father John Misty.. At the heart, I'm a folk guy. I want to be Neil Young and marry Joni Mitchell.
We could discuss music for quite some time if you think we overlap.

Movies - I grew up on Science Fiction classics, but not too impressed with cheesy Sci Fi these days. Overall I'm not a huge movie watcher. I've got a long list of things I'd rather do with 2 hours of my life. I make exceptions in certain cases (you have to sell it hard :])

Books - I get through some of the popular best-sellers (mainly non-fiction that). As a willing student of science, even on my own time I'm usually reading about math and physics. On a constant search to learn about how the universe functions.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Here's me skydiving, unfortunately there's no music (add me to facebook for that version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPvAzOB23vA

That day, I went to the bathroom and let someone go ahead of me, when I got back he had actually waited for me. So I go and everything is fine, but HE goes, and his chute tangled when it opened.. it had to be cut (with a knife) mid-air and thankfully the reserve chute worked, just in time. Close one!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm somewhere between an Engineer and a Scientist, with a focus on Computers (how they work at the physics level and how to make them work for you with Software).
While I'm no musical theorist, I've been playing guitar since high school, and am also passionate about the artists that I love.

I would love to learn:
Your favourite musical artists and why. Seeking out new music is a hobby of mine.
Anything you know about your specialized field of science that you want to share =)
Delicious recipes and how to cook (I cook a lot, but have a lot to learn)
How to sew/knit/tailor etc..
