About Me
Hello there 🌟
I'm Chris, currently travelling back home (Switzerland) from Japan without flying. It's definitely longer but closer to my ecological values and way more exciting too!
I used CS with the world's best travel partner for a year but since we parted ways, I created a new profile.
🙌You can have a look at our reviews here: "Mathieu & Christelle" (surprisingly often being referred to as "his wife"😅 )
The other day, I received a fortune cookie that said:
"Believe in miracles - they happen everyday." (cheesy, I know)
To remain enthusiastic about life, I try to find sparks of magic in the smallest things and moments of my day. Maybe that's what it's all about.
That same day, I came across another phrase on a storefront:
"Don't listen to people who tell you you can't eat a whole pizza.
You don't need that kind of negativity in your life."
Cheesy in another way. Still, it's a nice motto to live by.
🍄I would describe myself as curious, sensitive and creative. I might be reserved at first, but then I'm cheerful and try to make jokes. Hearing about other people's interests and passions motivates me. I despair of injustice, I'm feminist.
Also, I'm vegetarian (no meat, no fish)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I travel, I visit a few tourist sites, but that's not what interests me most.
I prefer to take my time: strolling for hours in a neighborhood or a market, watching people go about their lives from a park bench.
Meeting people in CS gives me a better understanding of what it's like to live there. It gives you a subjective yet important insight into social organization, people's beliefs, their dreams, what motivates them... While also sharing my life, we build a unique interaction.
Interests
🧶🧵I'm a beginner in embroidery, collage and knitting (which I started on this trip).
🎮I enjoy taking photographs, playing board games and video games.
🍝I don't know yet if I'm good at it, but I like cooking.
💃I had practised Rockabilly Jive and Solo Jazz for two years (still very much a beginner). I really enjoy dancing.
🎶 I sing in two choirs and in my shower.
💭I also like listening to podcasts and reading essays. They can be on different subjects, but mainly on sociology, feminism, ecology, cinema and history.
🏔🏓🏊♀️I'm not very sporty, although I like going hiking (a good excuse to be in nature) and I'm always down to try new things (the latest being tennis table, played in a sports club in Japan. Everyone looked at my forehand skills with a benevolent smile😆). During this trip, my growing interest turned to swimming, but it's not always easy to find indoor pools. I hope to continue practising it in Switzerland.
Music, Movies, and Books
🎶 I listen to many different things. At the moment, I'm obsessed with KOMPROMAT a French electro-punk duo.
📽So maaaaany movies! Alien, A Monster calls, Pulp Fiction, Memento, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Le Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu and Dirty Dancing =)
📖One of my favourite activities. I try to read at least one book from the country I'm visiting (any recommendation would be great!)
💚 Alice Rivaz, Annie Ernaux, Wendy Delorme, Virginie Despentes, Mona Chollet, Corinna Bille, Madeleine Miller, Herbert, Le Guin, Damasio,...
