About Me

I am a poet and have traveled in 100 countries over the years.... I am now writing a book about Russia and Mongolia called The Next Steppe which is a contrast to On the Road, the famous American road book of the 50's. What do you want to know about me? I have lived in Paris the past 20 years and before that was in Asia for 6 years. America is my home, still, but it is far away and I am happy to be able to relate what I know of being an American in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am couchsurfing because I want to be able to relax in the evening and not be camping all the time, especially in big cities (though I have done it). At my age it is necessary to become less wild... it takes time and I appreciate the help you give me in letting me stay some nights.

Music, Movies, and Books

All good music, but especially jazz and alternative country

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recite my poetry on the paris metro. I also do it in Teheran, Iran, and I will do it on the Arbat, and in Saint Petersburg as well. I am a performance poet so I don't consider this amazing, it is normal, but people who hear me are amazed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach how to live more simply in this complex world. I want to learn how to reach more people from my lonely travels around the world. I can share so much of what I have seen in my 64 years, and remain young doing it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, first of all my impressions of their country first hand, because I hitchhike and meet all kinds of people, and believe me, it is not so dangerous.
