Greetings and Salutations, fellow travellers!
Note: My Hopi name is Polimana which means "Maiden of Butterflies", and I prefer it to "Christine". I don't know how to change it on Couchsurfing.
I'm a Hopi/Diné/Samoan/Mexican bibliophile and musician with a keen interest in the lovely things that make up the mysterious phenomenon of existence.
I also have a pretty keen interest in the weird, gross, ugly things that make up our little psyches.
Life is about taking the bad and the good (eventually I'd like to come to the realization that these two categories are essentially one and the same), and I strive to be a sponge of knowledge and experiences.
I love hanging out and exchanging stories and ideas about anything and everything, and I believe that intellectual boundaries are for the weak--so be prepared!

Music:
Where do I start?? Y La Bamba, Fat Freddy's Drop, Kendrick Lamar, Amy Winehouse, Crumb, HAIM, The Doors, The Growlers, KOKOROKO, Grateful Dead, Tibasko, Nick Drake, Joao Gilberto--any genre you name, I like something from it. Genres are often not actually truly descriptive of artists, anyway.

Movies:
I've been trying to get my friends to watch "Pan's Labyrinth" for too long. "Good Time" has one of the best modern original scores I've ever heard. I could go on and on--why don't we just talk about it over coffee??

Books:
I'm a huge fan of poetry, some of my favorites being Neruda, Walt Whitman, Raymond Carver, Sylvia Plath and Adin Leavitt (a good friend of mine whose book I adore and have been travelling with since Vietnam). I admit that I lack knowledge of female poets, so do enlighten me if you know of any more underground women in poetry! When I was younger I read a lot of novels and so on, but as of late I've read mostly non-fiction books about history, psychology, philosophy, religion and so on. Currently I'm reading the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying which was recommended to me by an Irish Dzogchen practitioner I met in Cambodia.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I played Marvin Gaye's great classic "What's Going On" in the middle of occupied Oxford Circus during the XR protests last Spring. People were glued to the floor, camping out in tents and dancing all around me, singing along, "What's going on? What's going on?" Surreal.

教，学，和分享

I can help people with their English, I can teach basic Spanish and French, I can teach ukulele, guitar, basic bass, basic baglama, etc. If you stay with me in DC I can take you around the monuments, the museums (really wonderful exhibits), coffee shops, book stores, book clubs, parks, etc.
I would like to learn literally anything you're willing to teach me about your culture, language and history. Hit me with your best shot.
Generosity is the highest virtue in my eyes! Whatever you need, I'll do my best to help you out. If I need anything...I probably won't ask, to be honest. You can share the company of my dogs, who are the best part of me.
