Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Christoph, I'm 27 years old and study Japanese Studies (MA) at the University of Vienna! Languages have always been a passion of mine, specifically East Asian ones. Through languages, I also became more interested in East Asian societies, especially Japan. This lead me to study Japanese Studies at university, with a focus on political science. I'm quite a homebody in my free time, so my main hobbies include things like video games, reading, and watching movies. I also enjoy exploring Vienna's numerous cafés, and going to movie theaters or museums.
My apartment is located on Laudongasse in what is arguably Vienna's most "hip" district, the 8th, also known as Josefstadt. It's an extremely walkable area with good public transport and lots of nice restaurants, cafés, pubs and shops to explore. It also borders the 1st district, Vienna's city center, which is in walking distance. If you would like more information about the location, please let me know.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think that meeting up with people local to the places I want to visit is a much more enriching experience than simply staying at a hotel. I'd like to experience the culture of countries that I visit firsthand and want to be able to say that I've seen and experienced things that your average tourist typically doesn't get to experience.
Interests
I am quite introverted, so I often spend my evenings just staying home playing video games or reading a book. However, I also really enjoy exploring Vienna's many cafés and pubs, so I'm (almost) always down to try out something new, or take you to one of my favorite spots.

Music, Movies, and Books
In terms of music, I mostly listen to different genres of Metal. In the past, I used to listen to almost exclusively hip-hop, which is still a genre I enjoy occasionally returning to.
I've gotten more into watching movies in the past few years. Some of my favorites are Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Before Sunrise, and A Woman Under the Influence. I'm also a big fan of Twin Peaks and all other works by David Lynch! Here's a link to my Letterboxd if you're interested: https://letterboxd.com/akura/
I mostly read classical literature, like Dostoevsky, Sartre, and Dazai. As I'm very interested in political science, I also read a lot of non-fiction books about politics, economy, and social sciences in general.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don't think I do too much crazy stuff, my favorite memories are probably from travelling through Japan using Couchsurfing and hitch hiking, as well as touring Tōhoku in the winter.
Teach, Learn, Share
Mostly local things about Vienna, I suppose! I know the city quite well by now, so I'd like to think I know my way around decently well. I'm of course always willing to share anything I know about my other interests or hobbies as well.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am always happy to share knowledge about European culture, languages, lifestyle, cuisine and answer any other questions that might arise relating to my home country or any of the other countries I have visited or know something about!
